At some point however, once you are fully fledged and have served your apprenticeship, you are a "complete doughnut". I think even if in subsequent years you pull a nice bird or become marginally hard amongst your contemparies, you never really shake off this particular stigma. Even if you become universally thought of as being cool, there'll always be someone who says "didn't he used to be a bit of a doughnut
". When people are describing you to their mates, it won't be the bloke with the dark hair, it'll be "you know, that bloke that used to be a bit of a doughnut".
You never shake that one off, it's like a bulldog with lockjaw.
