Absolutely agree with the 3 at the back idea and have said a good few times that I would like to see us go that way. The acquisition of Glen Johnson and the fact that Insua looks like first choice at LB leans even more towards 3-5-2 or 3-3-3-1 being a viable option.

Well, without sticking my neck out too far it is safe to say Skrtel and Carra is not a title winning CB pairing.
None of them are close to world class in my eyes.

If Skrtel dont play his skin out against Chels or commit silly mistakes, he truly is not fit to wear our red shirt and deserved to sleep with the fishes.

12 goals conceded this year - 9 from set pieces when the entire side, including the full backs, are defending.

The 3 from open play have been Geovani's for Hull when our right full back Johnson lost the header in the first place and Skrtel made a pig's ear of trying to clear the second. The two in Italy came about because our left full back Insua played the lad onside and the second was because the right full back Johnson failed to close down the cross - as usual.

Our full back's attacking nature hasn't really cost us yet, what has is the fact both have had lapses in concentration. Or if it suits you better blame Lucas, Parry, the yanks and some lad on Lodge Lane named Paul.

As for the centre halves, no we don't have a problem there. Carra and Skrtel are quality, proven quality in this division. Agger, when fit, is one of the best ball playing defenders around. And the Greek fella looks like he could do a good enough job covering and gives us somebody a little more comfortable in the air.

I can't believe people on here are blaming the attacking by fullbacks for our defensive frailties. It almost seems as if people on here are allergic to offensive fullbacks. Riise was blamed for not being defensive enough when in fact he was decent. The errors made this season are errors between Carragher and Skrtl, their indecision and lack of communication. It is as simple as that. Also we have to note that it is a team game. if the full backs overlap to attack, the wingers would have to stay behind or the DM's like Masch and Lucas cover for them. I've seen Masch do this all the time. I've seen Alonso cover positions strategically. But I rarely see Lucas doing this. Lucas IMO doesn't have a clue what he's doing on the pitch sometimes being seen loitering about in middle.

What I see happening is that somehow all of a sudden Carragher doesn't seem to trust Skrtl as he keeps going for the same ball as Skrtl. I don't know if it is paranoia developed from aging or what but if you don't trust your partner then the partnership's not gonna work. Or maybe Carra has seen some things in Skrtl's play which makes him untrustworthy. Remember how Carra went for Arbeloa when he failed to clear the ball quickly because he wanted a clean sheet for Reina? We all know Carra's passion but outbursts like this from a senior player doesn't help. Skrtl as a result will lose his confidence and that's never good for a CB. Rafa should sit both Carra and Skrtl down and have a chat and he probably already have done so.

nothing to do with Carra, mate.
Skrtel lost the ball VS Fiore late in the second half, near the right flank and he simply gave up chasing the ball back.
He gave up!! Given Torres sometimes forsake his attacking duties to come back and defend.

Small school-boy errors committed by Skrtel is what determine that he should not wear our shirt again. Of course, he can prove the doubters wrong today VS Chels or just cementing the fact that he aint good enough.

was watchin real madrid-marseille game the othe night, couldn't believe the other night when i heard the commentator say that marseille had signed heinze off madrid for 1.3m, surely we should have made a move for him at that price, he's a proven quality player with loads of experience that could play at centre half or left full

serious problem at the back, carra looked too slow again today, skrtel looks like his confidence is shattered. I'd really like to see agger back, hopefully he starts against sunderland next week, theres no pressure on him as he cant be much worse than the pair that are there now so i'll expect a solid performance. I'd like to see us sign someone in january, possibly the hangeland lad from fulham or curtis davies from villa (who is stalling over contract talks at the moment, touch wood), whether or not we'll have the money is another story...

When are some people going to dry their f*cking eyes and realize that Sami Hyppia HAD TO F*CKING GO AT SOME STAGE?! Some of you expect some of our better players to play into their pension years or something and still keep the same standard?

Yes, of course he had to go at some stage just like Rafa but I wish Sami was still here.

I wasn't quite believing the blaming of Carra for going for the same ball as Skrtel, I think they both think they should go for every ball whether it is their partner's to call/clear or not. I'd simply avoid playing the two together, Agger and Carra, greek and Skrtel as back-up/alternative.

I do feel the full-backs can be our weak links, the CBs can't head and defend everything and Insua in particular has been sloppy at times and cost us a few too many goals.
