Would have sold him last summer.. Regardless of the Alonso thing... With Alonso gone i thought going back to a 4-4-2 would have been the way forward... Probably should have gone for a David Villa or Etoo or so.. With Gerrard back in the middle and with Alonso  AND Mascherano gone we still would have needed 1 CM to make a 4-4-2 work... Probably would have been easier and cheaper finding Gerrard a partner for a 4-4-2... but anyways... Never been a big fan of Mascherano, dont think he offers as much as say a Makelele in the defensive end and definitely nowhere near enough in an attacking sense.. Hes more a luxury sort of player whos nice to have against the stronger sides... Doesnt have much influence in most of the other games and i think the 30mill or so we could have gotten for him last summer could have gone a long way in improving other areas in our squad...

Anyways... Dont think we'll sell him anytime soon.. Rafa likes him and he'll stick with him... Not a bad player but massively overrated by our fans..

He needs a playmaker type of player to get the best out of him, if he plays with the likes of fabregas, kaka, sneijder, etc... in the middle he would look really quality.

I'm hoping that Aquilani will compliment him, then we will defenitely have a really strong midfield

He was really good sabre, looked like his old self when he joined us, closed down his opponents well and his passing was good

Agreed Sabre...I think he played a blinder today....Some excellent long range passes and well timed through passes, one to Torres in particular....

Was good to see him back even though i am still a bit upset with his whole Barca move thing. He played a great long diagonal ball today at one point, world class pass! Sometimes I think he needs to be rotated just to keep his game up, same thing for Riera too.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I liked the little bit of, ahem, Argy Bargy he had with Faubert near the end, after Insua got shoved over.  Masch made sure the Frenchman joined him on the deck and then just stood over him while he was trying to get up, cool as you please.  :D

For me he was man of the match on Saturday. How the hell Gerrard got the man of the match is beyond me. I wonder what games they are watching sometimes. The assist for the Kuyt goal aside I thought Gerrard was pretty poor.
