Has anyone actually understood the rules?

The way I see it is only 17 players can be over 21, so you have to register 8 players U21......what happens the next year 2 of them U21 players cant be registered as an U21 and aren't better then the 1st 17 players on the list???

Does this not mean if you haven't made the grade at 22 the you're shipped out straight away rather then given the chance to further progress as a squad player as you maybe would now?

you have not read the rules correctly.

Only 17 players can be foreign (as in not trained in England for three years before they were 21 like Owen Hargreaves and Fernando Torres) AND Over 21.

key word AND.

Then there are 8 slots for players who have trained in England like Cesc Fabregas and Steven Gerrard

17 + 8 = 25 man senior squad

AND THEN you are allowed to chose any and all of the U21s at your club. with U21 counting as being 20 years old when the year starts that the season starts in. Next season will start in August of 2010. But as long as you were 20 years old or younger on January 1 2010, you are golden for the entire 2010/2011 season.

Not a good idea, in England alot of academies are not producing enough quality youngsters because coaches these days are emphasising more on athleticism and physique in kids, which is hindering their development in technical areas. Plus, having 8 youngsters in a squad of 25 is not a good idea, maybe they should limit it to 3 youngsters
