 PMSL It is as if mick write so much that he does not have time to read his own posts. Funniest of all is mick portraying himself as the martyr. I tell you mick you really take yourself too seriously.

(cue the "deary me" "Ahh Kazza", the "oh my" or the much used "you are strange" just to discredit)

That's ok because I felt sorry for you all by your lonesome. I thought that if I put my input in your posse will come calling

stmichael wrote:Gerrard may not be at 100% but even at 50% he is a million times better than a few other players we have who are not pulling their weight. Gerrard has done so much for this club he deserves to be cut some slack when he has a bad patch. This is in contrast to a few others who seem to be escaping flack/public criticism despite doing sweet FA for us, who either need a rocket up their backside or even to be shipped out.

So are you saying it's ok for Gerrard to underperform or not give 100% (and Torres) but everyone else can get stick?  :Oo: Every time we play poorly, the scapegoats are normally the ones who get criticised, even though people would put Lucas, Babel, Voronin etc in a different class bracket to Reina, Carra, Gerrard, Kuyt, Mascherano and Torres. If the team plays badly it is becasue of the weaker players, even though they are outnumbered by the supposed superior quality players and they didn't do much better.

Or put another way, teams that win the title will invariably have some weak(er) players in it, but the quality/key players rise to the occaision more often than our's do. When the mancs lose, or looked like losing last season, it was because they left out key players or the key players didn't play well. They still had a weak RB, Fletcher, Nani or Anderson aren't key players and their keeper was susceptable, but the key is their key players not whether Fabio or Nani or Fletcher had a stinker. We seem to focus heavily on how Lucas, Babel or Voronin play when they are peripheral to the team performance. We didn't lose to villa because Lucas headed into his own net, we lost because the TEAM didn't play well and how many had good games or better?

Or are we aiming at a "perfect team"? If we got rid of Babel, Kuyt, Voronin, Dossena and Lucas, and brought in the very best replacements, who would we then blame? I'm guessing not Gerrard, not until the team has better players all around him and then, maybe then, he will become Lucas-fied (very much open to criticism, being called "sh it" etc)

Ooo controversial

But some good points, Owzat.

I totally agree that teams will always rely on their best players hitting the mark - missed chances by torres, Gerard , benyoun whilst we were on top in the first 20 of the villa game arguably cost us as much as anything else that went wrong that night
