Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said he was disappointed with his own personal performance during the 1-0 defeat at Bolton and added he will play anywhere for the team cause.
Gerrard said his best position is central midfield but understands that from time to time he can play wide right to help out the team.

Gerrard said: "Everyone knows I'd prefer to play in the centre because that's where I feel I offer the most, but I'm not someone who will sulk if I play down the right.

"I felt down at the Bolton game but that was because I was disppointed with my own performance. I knew I could do a lot better. My versatility could work against me in these situations, but I'll have a positive attitude no matter where I play for Liverpool.

"I'm sure the gaffer is going to rotate players around a lot this season and we'll all accept that. Everyone has to show the right attitude.

"The international break hurts us a lot more than other teams at the moment. We've hardly had a week to work with the manager since pre-season. I can imagine that must be very frustrating for him.

"When we were spending lots of time together you could see the good results. The international fixtures interrupted that. After a couple of defeats, we all wanted to get together and look at what went wrong, but we've had no time to do that.

"When you have a new manager it can take months before his work has an impact. The good thing from a club point of view is we have a month to work together now before the next international break.

"On paper we know the West Brom game is the kind of game people expect us to be winning, but we've seen in the past it doesn't always work out like that. I'll be looking for us to produce the same kind of performance we gave in the second half against Manchester City."

LIVERPOOL (Reuters) - Real Madrid are not interested in signing England midfielder Steven Gerrard from Liverpool, according to the Premier League club's manager Rafael Benitez.

Spaniard Benitez admitted he was concerned to read reports of Real Madrid's desire to add Gerrard to their trio of England internationals, David Beckham, Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate.

"I have read stories about Real Madrid wanting to sign Steven Gerrard but it is not true," Benitez told reporters on Friday.

"I have talked with the player and also talked to Real Madrid and they have both told me it is not true.

"I believe, here at Liverpool, we will have a long time to enjoy watching Steven Gerrard."

Benitez also said he expects Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, whose progress has been slowed by a succession of injury problems, to become England's number one.

"I am sure in the future he will play in the national team as he is a good goalkeeper and can play very well," Benitez said.

One thing for sure, Liverpool should not let him run down his contract to less than 2 years so that another Owen episode will not take place. Gerrard will stay if Liverpool start winning the serious trophies, not the likes of the Charity Shield or the lightly regarded European Super Cup.

It's obvious these rumours are going to continue even though he's committed to Liverpool, as with Vieira at Arsenal.

The sure fire way that he will stay is if we start putting in a serious challenge in the Premiership and in the CL.  Here's hoping Rafa can get things moving quickly.

f#k off real  an manc scum
REAL MADRID will make a £22million bid for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard when the transfer window reopens in January.

Real president Florentino Perez said: "Steven Gerrard is a player I really like, he is the type of player who would suit the famous shirt of Real Madrid."

Liverpool have attempted to defuse the speculation about Gerrard's departure.

But while boss Rafael Benitez attempts to rubbish the claims, his skipper is poised to quit Anfield. Madrid have targeted Gerrard after

talks with Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira broke down in the summer when they failed to agree a fee with Arsenal and refused to meet the pay demands of the French international.

It is no coincidence that the three English players who have moved to Madrid in the last year or so were all represented by the same agents at one time or another.

England captain David Beckham's deal was brokered by SFX, although he has since partedwith the company, and his former advisers were instrumental in the summer deals that took Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate to the Bernabeu.

Liverpool will fight to keep Gerrard - on target against West Brom yesterday - but a gentleman's agreement struck with chief executive Rick Parry, giving the midfielder power to demand a move if he's unhappy, will leave him with the final say.

In the event that he decides to quit, Chelsea will make another move for him but the complications that prevented the deal going ahead last time remain.

Gerrard is thought to be unconvinced that even under new management Liverpool can compete with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea for the major domestic honours.

And in Owen and Beckham Madrid have two ambassadors who will be quick to sell the club to Gerrard.

United would also be interested should Gerrard become available - although it is unlikely that the midfielder would contemplate following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney by swapping Merseyside for Manchester.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson put his marker down for the England star before Euro 2004 when he described him as the man to take over from Roy Keane.

Ferguson was devastated when Gerrard agreed to join Chelsea for £30m before changing his mind.

Although United have no money left in the kitty following the purchase of Rooney, Ferguson would push his board to make funds available should Gerrard decide to leave Anfield.

Hope against hope that he stays. If he doesn't, whats all this nonsense about 22m? Beckham went for 25. Given his age and quality bidding should begin around 35m and see where we go from there. I honestly think if you rang Mourinho up and said he's yours for 50m they'd pay it.

Another good post mick, i think he has got to be worth at least 50 million.

If Barca want 66 million for Ronaldinho, Stevie G is the complete player and 50 million would be a bargain.

However i would prefer have him in the team than 50 in the bank :)

So would I Cardiff, so would I. Not least because I think we are still only seeing about 70% of Stevies potential. Could be just about the best midfield player in the world in the next couple of years in my view. I'm talking England v Brazil in the World Cup final and all the discussion before the game is about how they will handle Gerrard. Sounds like bol**** I know but I think he could be that good if he can play with just a shade more intelligence in his distribution, forward runs etc. One things for certain, no better athlete has probably ever played the game from these shores. He runs too fast and far and jumps too high for most opponents to cope with on a physical level. Witness the mauling he gives Keane each time their paths cross.  He would probably have made a great rugby/tennis player or whatever if from a different background or area. He is the blueprint for the modern midfielder. He can do everything. My guess is he's not bad in goal in training as well so sod off with 22m and lets get real real.

I dont think we have to worry about Real going after our Manager the rock!! Benitez had his heart set on a move to manage us and he has a mission now to complete. I believe he is not the type of man who would desert us for Real or any other club at least until he has done what he came to do.
