Well, it depends much on the funds available.
Also now we are getting close to the new season and all the top clubs are holding onto their best players even tighter now since it becomes harder and harder to replace them.

The signals from Valencia is that they don't want to sell anyone unless they get silly money. And they always play an annoying game putting the media on red alert as soon as a bid is made to start an auction.

Getting Silva for under 25 million as young and hot he is right now on the market is a pipe dream.

Besides I don't think Rafa will tough Torres, Gerrard or Kuyt no matter what and Riera imo won't do much worse than Silva in his 1st season.

A 4th CB would be good since I have trouble trusting Mikel or Kelly. A rb would be nice but not vital as we can't have Darby, Kelly and Degen just for show in the squad?
A backup striker would be nice but it would take over 10 million
to get noticable upgrade on the bench and I am not sure we can afford it...

I dont know why people on here think Michael Turner would be such a bad siging, he would be a centre half in the mould that we dont currently have, in that he's aerially dominant and offers a goal threat that frankly our other centre halves dont give. I realize it would be a gamble with him stepping up in class but sometimes they are the chances you have to take, he would probably be overpriced and have to compete for a place but it could well be a masterstroke

what about Juan Mata if he hasn't already gone to barcelona?

20 m  euro i think we have, maybe even enough for a cb also.

I think its the same with Mata and Silva mate, Valencia don't look to be selling their best and most promising players (except Albiol who went to Madrid) unless its for top dollar, good player though

Well, there is one advantage with mata and that is that he has yet signed a new contract, which makes him not tied up for the long term just yet. Next summer he will only have 1 year left unless he signs....

Problem is that Barca also seem to be sniffing around...

What about Richard Dunne as cb, not a good year last year but was City's player of the year for  a couple of years running. Has the experience, only one to come near him would be Distan. Our defence needs prioritising big time, looked dodgy all pre-season.

Just echoing what everyone else is saying really. We need a Gerrard/Torres cover who can also play wide if needed, and I have suggested Tuncay many times as he'd fit in nicely with our budget. I'd like to see us sign another midfielder, and I'd like to be Joe Cole. We definately need another centre half, and I'd like it to be either of Portsmouths, Distin or Sol Campbell.

I'd love to see Joe Cole, but I'm certain we haven't a chance unfortunately.

with him and Carra at the back we'd be looking at a new top flight own goal record I fear!

I don't mate, he's an excellent young player who proved himself making the jump to Premier League standard last season. He had a FANTASTIC game in the 2-2 draw at Anfield last season. Skrtel and Agger seem to be a pair of sick-notes and our best defender left because he couldn't get a game last season. The Mail seem to think we made a tentative bid for Turner this week but we would have to pay through the nose to get him I think. I'd be very happy if we signed him though, he has the potential to develop into a dominant player.

I've thought of another signing Liverpool could buy on the cheap. Gutierrez from Newcastle! He's still there right? He looks pretty nifty player and could be a replacement in midfield for Aquilani while's he's injured and then starting to get used to playing with the team. He would also have Premier League experience for a good price. :D
