Nemeth and pacheco - Are either ready to step up?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bad Bob » Tue Jul 28, 2009 4:56 pm

I'll start by saying I don't follow the reserves and I haven't yet managed to see a pre-season match so I'm flying a bit blind here.  But, there seems to be a bit of buzz developing around our two young reserve strikers.  Pacheco seemed to be the apple of everyone's eye during the friendlies in Switzerland/Austria whereas Nemeth has obviously put himself into the frame after scoring a couple of goals in Singapore.  Not surprisingly, the talk has been growing that one or both of these lads might (finally) be ready to graduate to the first team and provide us support to our rather threadbare corps of strikers.  So what do people think?  Will this be the year that one or--dare we dream?--both of these lads make the step up?  Much will depend on how willing Rafa is to gamble on these young lads, of course.  So, a related question: is this the year for Rafa to take a chance on these youngsters or does Hansen's oft misconstrued adage that 'you win nothing with kids' seem like sound counsel in this case?

???  There's a thread for reserve team talk, you could have familiarised yourself with the forum a bit before spamming the place up. You're wasting precious bandwidth y'know.

I think Pacheco is still at least 2 season young. But Nemeth maybe. Even then NGog seems to be ahead in the pecking order.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Have only seen bits of both but those in the know seem to think they're very capable,

The one thing that Nemeth seems to have, even with limited viewing of him is the strikers instinct
that can't be taught.

Well he has got nothing to lose by giving them a chance because the strikers we have in Ngog and Voronin arn't as good as Pachecho and Nemeth so I say lets promte them and get rid of Ngog and Voronin

Pacheco needs another year to mature, he drifts in and out of games a bit too much at the moment, but Nemeth looked ready imo. He makes good runs (admittedly against poor opposition ) and looked clinical in his finishing. I would certainly expect him to "show" in a few games if we don't buy. Whether he can make the stepup depends more on his attitude than on his ability now. Although I would feel a little more secure in my prediction if Stu was here to give his verdict first :D

I have to say I'm in a similar position. Not seen much of reserve or pre-season, but the hype seems to preceed them both.

I for one would like Rafa to gamble a bit more to blood some of the youngsters.

Obviously sensibly. not sticking them on when we're 1-0 down, or starting them against everton. but slowly introducing them to the first team.

18 year old Aaron Ramsey has already featured in 22 competitive games for arsenal. 9 of those in the league.
Like wise Kieran Gibbs (18) has made 23 appearances with 8 of those in the league.
18 year old Wellbeck has made 13 appearances for utd

Nemeth is 20 and Pacheco is 18. I'd like to take them on the bench for most games against the bottom sides

I think Nemeth could do a job right now - he has gained experience and has shown he can finish - lacks of bit physically . Pacheco has another season in the ressies i reckon but he still could do a very good job in the cups and see how he goes , both have got the ability to succeed thou and hopefully (and think they will) get a chance to show us what they can do .

Both of these boys have a good future at Liverpool , but Rafa needs to play them. Between them I think that Pacheco is a better player but still too young ...

I have watched quite a bit of the reserves meself so will give my two cents.

Nemeth looked great 2 seasons ago. Great finisher, seemed to come natural to him and i hoped to see him last season. Thats why i was more than a bit annoyed when Rafa brought in Ngog and loaned Nemeth out.
Last season was a write off for him though due to injuries which was a shame after the promise of the season before.
If we dont buy another striker quickly he will without doubt get opportunities.

Pacheco looked great against Singapore for that little cameo but they were not the best the opposition (to put it mildly) and they looked shot near the end as well.
He looked great in patches last season and you can see he has massive potential.
He did look a bit more physically ready the other day than he has previously.
My main issue with him is his decision making at times in great positions is poor. And his finishing lets him down too often as well.
Preseason will do him the world of good with the first team though and if he can do what he did the other day then he too deserves to be on the bench rather than deadwood squad players.

For me it's a bit of a catch 22 with these lads. Both skilled and showing promise but not ready yet to step up to the next level. The catch is, the only way for them to further improve is to actually play at the next level. Perhaps a few cameos in some prem games and more extended appearances in the domestic cups would benefit both of them but neither of them strike me (particularly Pacheco) as being anywhere near to being considered significant additions to our senior squad.

Gibbs completely :censored: Arsenal in the CL, or league, I can't remember against United.  Rookie mistake and gave em a goal.  The other 2 are good shouts, however it was Macheda who saved their :censored: twice
