Liverpool FC heroes to make their big screen debut

Jul 20 2009 by Tina Miles, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL FC heroes past and present are signed up to appear in a new film about one of the club’s greatest games.

Reds stars Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Dietmar Hamann are all expected to make cameo appearances in Fifteen Minutes That Shook The World.

The film is being backed by Liverpool defender Carragher and a share of the profits will go to his new young people’s charity The 23 Foundation.

The 15 to 20-minute movie was written by Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels co- writer Dave Kirby.

Jamie said: “When Dave Kirby and Paul Flanagan approached me about this idea, I read the script and thought it was hilarious.

“The lads and I are going to have to take the mickey out of ourselves. The film is a great way of raising awareness for The 23 Foundation.”

The movie centres around the inspiration behind Liverpool’s fightback during the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul.

Phoenix Nights star Neil Fitzmaurice will play Reds boss Rafa Benitez in the North Star Productions’ movie.

Actors Andrew Schofield, Suzanne Collins and Jake Abraham are also involved.

The short film is being made by new Liverpool city centre-based company Miracle Productions, which was set up by city businessman Flanagan and Kirby.

Paul said: “We are hoping to get the whole Liverpool team involved. Liverpool fans will love it but it will also appeal to anyone who has a passion for football.

“Jamie asked me to be on the board of his new charity and we wanted to start generating awareness for the charity so we got involved with the Community Foundation.

“The film is a fantastic way of giving something back to football fans.”

Casting agency Bananafish Management are hunting for lookalikes from the 2005 winning squad to feature in the film.

Open auditions will be held at Carragher’s Cafe Sports England bar and restaurant in Stanley Street from 11am on Wednesday.

The movie is expected to be premiered at the Odeon cinema, in Liverpool One, in autumn this year.

To register for the auditions e-mail Minutes_15@hotmail.com and email a photograph to info@bananafish.co.uk

The 23 Foundation is aimed at helping children and young people.

I bet all the original players would turn up if you asked them... Jerzy, Šmicer even Djimi!

Not sure the Meelan lads were turn up and Kewell would get injured walking onto the field.
