Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'd like to know more about Joe Fagan, was reading up on him a few weeks ago actually but of course he was a few years before my time. He only spent two years as manager and won the League, League Cup and European Cup, as well as finishing runner-up in the competition.

He followed in after Shankly and Paisley, so really I think Fagan's appointment may of been just to keep the ship steady while a long term replacement was found. It seems that he isn't spoken of too much which is strange because during his two years he kept us winning trophies and challenging, which isn't always an easy thing to do.

He won the treble in '83/'84 and looking at it he might have stayed on longer if it hadn't been for 1985, however he's mentioned very little relative to other Liverpool managers. Why is that?

I know about JoeFagan, fantastic manager for the club. Just because people don't hold a memorial service every year for anyone who is dead doesn't mean a lack of respect Nanny.

Joe took the helm for the 1983 Charity Shield.  We got beaten 2-0 by United and everyone felt this was the start of the demise after the Shanks and Paisley era.  By the end of the season Joe had guided Liverpool to the European Cup, Milk Cup and League title.....absolute genius.

The following year obviously Heysel was terrible and Juventus were gifted the match when they were awarded a penalty after Boniek was fouled outside box.  Under different circumstances Liverpool may have won that game and Joe would have lifted two European Cups after being a manager for only two years in his career.  What a thought.....Rest in Peace Joe.  I certainly will never forget what you did for Liverpool.

No one is saying hold a memorial service Heimdall, you always have to get your little two peneth worth in, dont yeh, i just found it astounding that at first only me an Hayesy rememberd the great man, An it wasnt just about him being our manager for a couple of seasons , the man put his life into this club, an its about people paying repects to a man well never see the likes of again, Loyalty mate,  Its just not about popular managers the press have drooled over , theres far more to Liverpool football club that that, id do the same thing if it was arl Tom Saunders, Rueben Bennett or Geoff Twentyman, all legands at this club as far as im concerned an they deserve just as much repect as we pay Shanks an Paisley,

Thats all

RIP JOE . Was a myth that he retired over heysal . He planned and informed the club at the start of that season that he woud retire . Although a brilliant manager , he didn't like the limelight that it brought and prefered to stay in the background . He was a reluctant but very successful manager of LFC . Defo a legend .

Looking back at it, his second season was always going to be a struggle with Souness going. How do you replace someone like him?

Ok so your are allowed to talk and insult people but not me, is that right Nanny? What gives you the right and not me?

As I said, I respect the man a huge amount but I don't feel the need to start a thread about his death every year. You were criticising people for not pouring their hearts out about a manager that most people didn't even know, on a personal level, it's absurd.

I completely respect you for starting a thread about it but don't start having a go at other people and say you are sickened, and boy do you use these forceful words a lot, that other people don't join in, that is a bit out of order in my opinion.

BTW It's an open forum so I have just as much right to talk as you do, don't you dare try to take that freedom away from me.  :veryangry  :veryangry

i knew the man, and knew it was a few years since he died.

great guy, and when you heard him speak, he was never the animator, but a humble gentleman who loved the beautiful game
