Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I See Zlatan on a regular basis and he has all of the technical skills to become one best footballers of the world be he never will be. He is lazy and has a huge ego and that is what limits him and I highly doubt that will go away. He has also never been able to cope with the big games. In every club he has been with he has made himself impossible to deal with just so he can force a leave. Would we want to risk team morale just so he can trip around doing his fancy dribbles.

i think we created plenty of chances (or "half chances" , seeing as they weren't taken) against most of the teams  we failed to beat at anfield (with the exception of poss west ham, fulham, man city which  were the  worst performances imo)

Fecking hell , you read my mind  serious, i was thinking about him cigg Maybe Rafa can do what he done with Kuyt change his posotion, from attacking to holding mid , because he can certainly put a tackle in, an hold an play the ball. i cant believe we both thought of the same lad

Agree he would not be a bad shout, he's a cracking player and it would certainly change the way we play if you had him in the central two in our current set-up plus Rafa was linked with him a couple of summers ago I believe. Only problem is that if you asked Mark Hughes who is the one player he would not want to sell from his squad, I've got a feeling it would be Steven Ireland. I couldn't see them selling unfortunately.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I think somebody else made the point earlier in the thread, it may depend on who Rafa intends to sign. For example if Rafa wanted to spend his transfer budget on someone like David Villa it would logically imply that Gerrard drops back into an orthadox midfield playing alongside Xabi or Mascharano. However if Rafa sold either Alonso or Mascharano and did not intend on signing another striker to partner Torres somebody like Hargreave, Gattuso or Boeteng. Maybe neither are realisitic due to age and club but both of these players would just about fill in the Masharano role. Alonso is a little different in that he is more of a "deep lying playemaker," 'pulling the strings from deep ala Pirlo who has been mentioned before.

Put it this way if it was Alonso who left I'd drop Stevie back to play alongside Masharano as Alonso's style and quality is rarely matched therefore replacing him would be much more arduous. If Mascharano was to go a traditional defensive midfielder would suffice like the previously mentioned (or that mould) this would allow us also to keep Gerrard in the advanced role.

If you look at Mascherano in isolation, an individual player, then you see he's a good player but that he may be replaceable. When you look at him as part of our team or system, you soon realise he's not. Unless it's a ridiculous offer, selling Mascherano would be lunacy. Even if there were a capable replacement out there (which there isn't) it's not like changing a gear box in a car. Not a simple like for like replacement. I feel it's more like a liver transplant - it takes time to bed and, recover from and there's always a massive chance it wont be compatible with it's host.

This is the summer of all summers when we need minimum disruption to our team. So replacing any important player is going to set us back at least somewhat. Mascherano and Alonso have both said (twice each now) that they are happy at Liverpool.

I saw Ibra once look totally indifferent in a match at home, can't remember who it was against, but he took a speculative shot at one point when he could have easily played in a teammate who was in a much better position and he got booooed by his own fans, and then he started making hand gestures at them.  THen the next time the ball came to him he smacked it in the net from 30 yards out and put up the Arshaven sush.  As a manager, I probably wouldn't want him on my team as to me, he would be worth more to the team in his transfer fee. And As an opposing manager I would only be afraid of Zlatan if I was managing a smaller team.

But I also don't see "going missing in the big games" as much of an issue in football. Who cares? The vast majority of games are not big games, and that is where leagues are won and lost.  I think the much bigger indictment would be "he only plays well in the big games"

He's fecking sh!te , one of the most overrated players , nothing spectuculat about him , bhis goal record is abysmal , only 1 goal in 71 apps ever for madrid , sorry but no thanks.

Replacement For Alonso :

Diego , he's always the creative second forward that saint is banging on about , now he's a great passer of the ball , more of a threat going forward and would have cost around 20 million. Unfortunately for us he has signed for juventus.

Ireland : He's a interesting shout as he had a great season and city are in a position where they don't have to sell . Ireland scored 13 goals last season and got a bunch of assits as well . He's a intelligent player , very very hardworking and a good but not on xabi's level of passing although they aren't many who are.

Daniele De Rossi - fantastic vision , good passer of the ball , can put a tackle in but barca are interested in him as well. How much would he cost ?  Around 25 to 30 million as well . He's got 4 goals this season , around the same as xabi .

he does have a huge ego, but he certainly proves on a consistent basis that hes one of the best players in the world... he scored 25 goals in 35 appearances last season.. come on now ! whats even more impressive in the manner in which he scores, absolutely amazing player to watch... add to that the several assists (pretty sure he got to double digits) and the fact that more often than not he's his teams only attacking threat and its hard to argue that hes one of the best in the world... Mourinho certainly thinks so !
Hope Manutd dont go for him, he's a 80mill target of theirs last time i checked  :D
Im pretty sure that if he moves to one of the top top clubs in Europe (Barcelona, Madrid, ManUtd, Chelsea) he'd win the Bollon Dór...
The whole 'big games' thing (only in the champions league) i can understand, but the fact that all the big clubs mark him out of games knowing that Inter dont have much besides him when going forward certainly makes things much harder for him... from what i've seen of him against the top clubs in the CL he always tries to do everything on his own in the final third... carrying th ball, dribbling past a ferw players then trying the seemingly impossible to try and score.... Put him in a Barcelona side and im pretty sure he'd be talked about more than Henry, Etoo, maybe even Messi....

For the first time ever i have to agree with ace , ibra is a brilliant player , he has carried inter a hell of lot this last couple of seasons. Who do inter have besides him , Mancini doesn't score alot , their midfield goals accmulate to 10 a season i think. They are a decent side but next season i think we will see Juve return as the kings of italian football

so now all we need to do if find a spare £75 million and put in a bid for him, get serious guys. He is a complete t1t as well.

I would like to see the Kid Mata from Valencia, the guy is class.

Not a replacement for Xabi but he is a class act.
