for him to say "I can't answer that question," means there is a very good chance that he is about to go, if he was not why did he just say "no i love being at liverpool and i am staying? ????

sorry, but that's ridiculous  :p

first of all, if any of them leave it'll be because rafa lets them and we're getting a huge price

Secondly, from everything we've heard over the last 2 years mascherano wishes rafa was his  dad  :hearts

Thirdly, after last summer, there's no way that xabi would come out and say "i'm staying"

so why will both of them not come out and say they are happy here and are staying here, instead of saying "I can't answer that question"

They're not going anywhere. I can't see Rafa letting either go unless the offer is astronomical which ain't gonna happen
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

That is a very very good question. If they want to leave then they can feck off. if we get good money for them and can find more attacking replacements then I will be over the moon.

The bottom line is that if the player doesn't want to play for the club for whatever reason then it's time to tell them "Thanks for all your hard work, don't let the door catch you on the way out."  :D

i just think it would be foolish of alonso to be gushing with love and dedication to the club when he knows that his position is (partially) out of his hands (and has experience of that possition last summer)

he's being cagey

I actually agree with you there Heimdall!..

IF the reports are true.

Let them go if they wish it.... Rafa's handling of the Alonso situation last season would have been painfully embarrassing for a player of Alonso's ability..... in addition, as much as I love Masch, if he still wants to leave for Barca, then let him go.... I won't tolerate disloyalty from any player against the club. Yahya Toure could be an adequate replacement.

It would be far smarter to say that he loves the club etc, then he puts the pressure on Rafa and if he moves it's Rafa that will look like a c%&t rather than Xabi.

FWIW, I think this is a repercussion of how thoroughly and gloriously Rafa phucked up his man-management skills last year, and a legacy of the personal battle with Parry. By that, I mean Rafa stomping around like a child, insisting it was his way or no way, mentioning Alonso as a makeweight in transfer dealings etc. last year, and here we are one year down the road : Alonso hasn't forgotten the way he was treated, nor should he. I'm not defending him, but if it were me in the same situation, knowing that a manager tried to flog me a year ago, I would have simply bided my time....

I can see dozens of replacements for Mascherano but no one for Alonso.

Javier Mascherano is set to leave Liverpool, with Barcelona preparing a £35million bid.
The Argentine, 25, has told boss Rafael Benitez he needs to leave because his wife, Fernanda, is reluctant to return to England.
Sportsmail exclusively revealed earlier this month that the midfielder was unsettled but Benitez had hoped to persuade him to stay.
However, Fernanda is pregnant, has returned to South America with their daughter Iola and does not want to fly back.
Benitez is understanding but still wants at least £35m for his midfield enforcer.
Mascherano's agent, Walter Tamer, held talks on Wednesday with Barca general manager Raul Sanlehy and sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who will offer around £20m plus possibly striker Bojan Krkic.

If that's really on the table,I would seriously consider this.Maybe a bit more money, like 22 oir 23.But Bojan is a seriously talented player.

£25million and Bojan and I'd snap their hand off. Bring in Silva and Johnson and Muamba... nice!!

I'm sorry but I just cannot see us getting all this cash and having the ability to go out and buy some class players. Untill someone is sold I don't realy wana dream of players we can bring in I just can't picture Liverpool having 40million to spend.

It would be brilliant tho!
