This is a very tongue in cheek topic as there is no real right or wrong answer, and it's just a bit of fun, but now Ronaldo seems to be off to Spain does that make our Dirky Boy the best RM in the Premiership? I said before there aren't too many better RMs you could buy for less than £15m+, not that give you the goals and assists he does.

How much do people on here think Kuyt is worth now? He is getting towards 29, cost us £10m, but I reckon he's worth a lot more than £10m if not in value, then to our team.

Id say he is probably worth around 16mil. Anyway he has done well in his position with a good goal return but he doesn't get forward enough with the ball. He tends to look for a pass rather than take on his man so in that sense he will never be a natural RM. I also don't think we will get anyone else in for that position as we already have Yossi who can fill that area and even Babel if needed.

I voted in the probably category.  Best RM in the true sense of the position, perhaps not, most productive, very likely.  Most likely to get stick when the team fails to break down park the bussers, definitely, as long as Lucas isn't on the pitch.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Teams can keep their natural RM's, end product is what you need not fancy footwork and getting to the by-line only to put the ball down the keeper's throat all the time. Didn't Johnson whip in a cross or two without beating his man? It's the quality of cross, I know most people like the idea of beating the full-back and all that jazz, but I'm not sure we get enough in the box and they're not that great in the air.

So I think what Kuyt does fits in nicely with out style, if we played two strikers you might make a case for the variety of crosses. Who is likely to get on the end of high crosses? Torres? Yes. Gerrard? Maybe. Alonso? Not that likely. Mascherano? pfffft. Riera? meh. Benayoun? Probably second likeliest candidate other than Kuyt who can't cross AND head the cross in! Besides, I think crossing is evolving a bit. I'd like to see a few more balls bent around behind the defenders for the attackers to run onto, I'm sure you can picture the low balls being played in that I mean.

Whatever you want to call him, these players drift about so much it's almost pointless labelling them in any one position. I remember someone suggesting Kuyt scored all his goals playing up front because he was in the box when he scored (or something like that!) If that's the case anyone who scores is "playing up front"

Statistically, he can be as his cross had really improved from the right side. I really think he will do even better next season. Defensively, he is better than most on the right side as his work rate is second to none.

Kuyt will never ever be 'best' anything... hes only as good as the team make him out to be and the day hes best anything in the league is the day we win the fcker...

I agree more balls in is the key but often he doesn't go far enough to get a cross in so again it goes back to what I say...

The only question really is if he can duplicate this season, if he does then.. imo he is the best RM in the prem.  If it was just a fluke then he's as expendable as some on here believe him to be and does not deserve first team football.  Time will tell I guess.. I hope it is a sign of things to come though I really do.

What's the difference between possibly and probably? ???

Kuyt cannot beat a man, with pace or skill. Dont know how he can be the best right midfielder
if that's the case.

The amount of confidence.  To wit, if a mate rings you up and asks you to be his wingman at the club that night, you'd rather hear him say that the girl he's after "probably" has some hot friends and not "possibly" has some hot friends.  A subtle distinction, perhaps, but an important one. :D
