lol.... Mascherano for 30 mill... Alonso for 35 mill ?
If Barcelona and Real are seriously prepared to offer such money for the pair we should seriously consider selling both.., neither are worth such money and if we move Gerrard back and spend around 15mill bringing in a holding midfielder to play alongside him we can seriously use the money to strengthen elsewhere ... Get in with the big boys for the big players who can make a difference in the final third...

Now i know this is never going to happen in a million years... and i know its probably best if we try to keep as many key players in our side for next season, but this is ridiculous money and we can probably improve more than we lose out on if we make the right tranfers.... dont think either is going anywhere though, which is great if we manage to add some quality to our attacking game somehow..

Yes it's probably worth remembering that all is not absolutely lost if either Alonso or Masherano do insist on a move. Of course ideally you'd keep both and the Gerrard/Torres front pairing, but if the worst comes to the worst you could always drop Gerrard back. He is in all probability the best central midfielder in the World (and yes I include both Inniesta and Xavi in that statement) so all wouldn't necessarily be lost.

It could probably be argued (and who knows if this was Rafa's plan last season) that if Gerrard were to replace Alonso, we would kind of get the best of both Worlds. With Masherano in behind him, Gerrard would spend most of his time being close to Torres anyway and you would then have the freedom to get that "creative second striker".

Actually an agent is their representitive and there to do their best job for their client. I think we're a bit naive to think they shouldn't be looking at potential moves and wouldn't we in the same situation?

I really doubt we'd get £30m for Mascherano, he may be a "valuable commodity", but I think Barca like attacking more and would probably look elsewhere for a DM with limited other attributes at that kind of price.

I have to doubt the Barca-Mascherano link on the face of it anyway, didn't they score 100+ goals in winning the league, landed the Spanish Cup and European Cup? (their first ever treble) In those circumstances I'd go out and buy a Ferrari, not an Armoured Personnel Carrier

In some peoples opinion Gerard is the best midfielder in the world, but 2 of the best coaches around (rafa, capello) don't consider him 1st or 2nd choice for that position :p

I don't think simply "drop stevie back into cm and buy a holder for 15m" will would work - its taken rafa 5 years to get our midfield balance together, seems crazy to rip it up now when fine tuning seems the most provident thing to do

If we bring in a genuine all round CM I would probably choose Masch to go. Bring in a more creative player and it would be Alonso to go. Certainly if we are so desperate for money and have to sell without buying a suitable replacement, I would sell Alonso, as in my opinion Lucas plays much better when paired with Masch.

For me Alonso doesn't create enough, while Masch does his job, so I voted to sell Alonso. (I also think when Masch is at the top of his game he is World class, sadly he has only shown this in a few games this season)

Same for me , even after the season alonso has had . Very tough choice and i hope it doesn't ever come to this point where we have to sell one

bbc are reporting that Xabi Alonso is goingto have talks with Rafa  over the next week

SSN reported late last night that Xabi Alonso was ready to leave the club.

The papers say Xabi Alonso will leave

I say there is not much football news right now.......Bit of luck it will die down after the England game tonight.

Perez has given up hope on signing Alonso after Xabi failed to acknowledge Real madrids advances.

Xabi is going no where :nod

Cigs this news changes day by day. How many times have Real gone back and forth on Ronaldo? This could be recent news that we don't knwo about yet.

To be honest as ace said if we can get a silly amount for him then we should consider it.

Yeah well his 'representative' might have landed Masch with a fine if the Mirror is to be believed this morning.

Real Madrid Give Up Chase For Liverpool Star Xabi Alonso

Florentino Perez admits that attempting to lure Xabi Alonso to the Bernabeu could be a lost cause...

Hot on the tail of securing the services of Brazilian star Kaka for an impressive six years, newly appointed Real Madrid president Florentino Perez spoke to Telemadrid about the players that he has been linked with of late.

Perez admitted that Los Blancos are looking to bring in an estimated six new players, but the 62-year-old conceded that attempts to sign Liverpool midfielder and Spain international Xabi Alonso could be entirely in vain.

"He [Xabi Alonso] is a great player but he also plays in a big team and I haven't heard any news that they plan to sell him," he said.

"It's obvious that [Liverpool manager Rafael] Benitez is counting on keeping him. That's normal, he's a good player and it wouldn't be easy to replace him."

Since taking over, Perez has openly laid his cards on the table when it comes to his intentions in the Spanish capital. The honcho stated that at least nine players are regarded as dead weight, and will be let go as he looks to continue rebuilding the club in a glamourous fashion.

"The squad has 28 players. We can bring in six new and only register 25," he concluded.

good bye and fuck off Real.

This story is exactly the reason why i despise football agents. basically mascherano has said that he'd love to play for Barca one day and all of a sudden his agent's coming out saying he want's to leave blah blah blah.

If they want him we should demand Yaya Toure in exchange.
