too right, mate. lets keep on making constant disparaging remarks about gay poeple. we'll throw in the same about jews, black people, the disabled, asians, the blind, the deaf, females and fat people. its all ok though, its just the way people talk now, isn't it?

for what its worth, burjennio, i've always appreciated your intelligent and eloquent input in most discussions but i think you're missing the wider picture here.

a passing remark about gays or anybody doesn't really bother me, i understand that this is how people speak and most of the time it is not meant with any particular malice. its when it becomes incessant (and let's face it, lando's remarks were fairly incessant) that it is in danger of being inflammatory and this is when i can't stop myself from airing my own point of view on the matter. i've always done it and i've often got myself into trouble for it. but there you go.

I think you are missing where Im coming from Andy, gay is an openly accepted term, not a slur. I would never call anyone or anything something more sinister, Kin' hell mate my brothers gay and he calls everything gay! I mean Chick Flicks, Miley Cyrus, WWE Wrestling, double handed backhands (just kidding  :D ) but he uses it as a turn of phrase, and even so I dont think he would feel aggrieved if someone called him that (except my Dad   :upside: ) but again I can't speak for you Andy I can only put my opinion across.

Whether people think it's a fairly innocent turn of phrase or not (and many of our members could probably draw on their own experiences to remind us of some other formerly 'innocent' turns of phrase that are now correctly barred from polite conversation) the reality is that it can also be a very derogatory put down.  Since we endeavor to keep this place a fairly open and inclusive forum with a broad spectrum of members welcome, I think it should go without saying that repeated and at times quite aggressive 'gay jokes' are not ideal.  As we all have no doubt experienced, in the impersonal environs of the message board, one person's joke is another person's insult.  Nothing wrong with a bit of banter and all that but perhaps the gay references could be toned down somewhat?

i'm all for it myself as well, on the very important condition that it is used with respect.

So I take it that you feel I have wronged you and all of mankind by what I have typed on here to represent my own feelings on the double-handed backhand? I personally believe that you have got yourself all het-up over something that was never aimed at you (it was aimed at Murray, if you cast your mind back) and you've gone over the top in making this some kind of personal quest.

Never-the-less, I apologise unreservedly for the obvious upset and distress I have caused, and shall stab my inner thigh with forks for the rest of the evening...

Now - I'm off to coach the glorious sport of tennis (excluding the very, very butch double-handed backhand, of course)...

*EDIT* Attention all butch people: The above is in no way a disparaging or inflammatory remark about butchness. I accept that many wonderful people have been butch in their past and taken tremendous personal strides to rectify this damaging and lasting lifestyle.

Inside every butch person, there is a nice person waiting to get out...

You're just being a sarcastic, immature bar steward now.

And you're the one that's gone OTT on basically all of your posts on this thread. You're the one that got personal with it.

So me and Andy down, who you after next?

Anyone else who starts talking sh*t, dumpling.

Don't get me started on that gay black jew in a wheelchair across the road from me. Coming here, taken our jobs, confusing our women, and freewheeling down hill laughing at us all. Life is a breeze for them.

I boycotted it, it used be all red and enjoyed it when it was the Stella Artois, it looks, well going with the spirit of the thread, gay.
