Bear in mind a lot of those relegated either weren't good enough or had the wrong attitude. I can't believe Newcastle and Boro suddenly found themselves with that many players who weren't good enough so you have to question a number of player's attitudes.
I might consider Tuncay, Owen, Downing, Taylor and Wheater, but only if the price is right - which in most cases would be up to £5m except Downing where I might consider going up to £7m. But I'm not sure Downing is needed, we have Riera and should be looking to buy a quality player to play LWF (Tevez or whoever) Owen is still quality, I think SJP was a bad move for him as they have an oddly large number of injury problems there. Tuncay perhaps isn't consistent enough, I'm not sure Wheater would be better than a fourth choice CB and I'd want someone better (although he is only 22)
Taylor might be a good option, decent player but I suspect he and a lot of the others at those two clubs will be too expensive - even though reportedly Newcastle have too many players on big money with no relegation clause to reduce those wages. Newcastle won one of their last eight games, do we really want their players who were not that great on the day when a draw against a fairly ordinary villa would have saved them? Our defeat at Boro was appalling, one of only seven wins they managed all season and they scored two against us despite being lowest scorers by EIGHT goals.
Is it worth looking at WBA? Brunt might be worth a punt, but they were essentially a Championship outfit that was pretty much doomed from day one. That they finished within two points of Boro and Newcastle says more about the NE sides than WBA.
Hull's 35 points to survive is the second lowest to finish 17th in the Premiership with only WBA's 34 in 04/05 lower. Sunderland's 36 points to finish 16th is the lowest by one point from Bolton last season. Someone suggested on teletext that they should relegate five teams, I think they're right.
