No weird point Ace, just "point"ing out the fact that "deserve" really has nothing to do with results and as such, I don't apply it to anything.

As to Stamford Bridge, my memory is of a Liverpool defending like hell against Chelsea attacks for the majority of the game. Not that that deminishes the performance. Liverpool played well, but the actual result was due to a lucky deflection.

I understand where Tony's coming from here, although it doesn't mean I 100% agree with him. "Deserve" is something of a pointless argument, but equally so is "lucky" irrelevent, "hit the post" inconsequential, "robbed" a misnomer etc. But if you didn't talk about any of those things there'd be little or no discussion on football. It all matters not a jot at the ned of the day in the sense that it's simply a question of who puts the ball in the onion bag the most times, but it kind of gives the whole talking about it thing a purpose.

As for the Frank Lampard thing and his deflections, it always makes me laugh a bit that does. It's a bit like when they say "84% of people involved in road accidents after midnight have had an alcoholic drink" and expect you to be horrified. Who else is on the roads after midnight FFS, People who've had a beer probably represent 84% of drivers at that time of night. In Lampards case (not so much this season as previously) he has about 19 shots per match from outside the area. It kind of stands to reason i think that he's going to get a few deflections. Not luck that one, just law of averages.

the mancs were somewhat lucky at wigan.

although the ref had a good game, the linesman was rubbish!!

several decisions of fair challanges by wigan players went punished for free kicks for the mancs

im not saying that wigan wouldve won, but it couldve changed the outcome etc

they played well last night and were unlucky not to get at least a draw

mind you carricks goal was sublime, and tevez had a bit of luck, as his back heel was a little fortuotous

Just shows you I watched that goal and the replays and I didn't see the deflection (not doubting you BTW mate, just didn't see it).

just as a repeat as nobody came back on it earlier, did anybody else notice Wigans clever free kick counter to Ronaldo? Each time he ran up, someone from the wall dummied to close down illegaly and then jumped back into the wall. It seemed to unhinge the little ponce, and was a clever little trick. Hoipefully Barcelona noticed it, perhaps Sabes could send em a little computer clip zippo thing.

to be honest - i didn't watch the game but read somewhere in a report that it deflected

I haven't seen the Wigan tactics but that will be very interesting if others pick up on it .... will wind up ronaldo a treat :p

I watched the whole game (good match actually apart from the result) and I can't help thinking the report was wrong about carrick's goal (I thought you'd actually seen it). He hit it with his left foot and very cleverly kind of steered it firmly without trying to hit too hard. Looked as sweet as a nut to me in terms of the strike, and emotion aside a really good goal.

I understand what your saying to an extent, but if you win and desevedly so then its gets the confidence flowing even more.

If what you and Tony are saying about whether you deserve to win is totally irrelevant then i disagree.

It is an indication of how you are playing and whether you are a good side or not, yes there will be times that you can play poorly and win, or play well and lose and i suppose thats the point he is making.

But generally the team that deserves to win, usually does.

Definately watched different games me and you, we bossed the game i watched.

And i would also say the result wasnt due to a lucky deflection, just the goal.
It may have been the only goal but the result was due to a good performance, and one imo that deserved a second goal.

will have to look for that - mullery was saying on skysports news that his free kicks were poor and just kept hitting them into the wall

"Deserve" has everything to do with it
And nothing whatsoever
You can play a team off the park, deserve to win and lose in the last minute
You can play absolute shi'te and deserve to lose and win in the last minute
I agree absolutely that I would take scoring one goal more than the opposition every time
However I would like to see us playing the way we have been over the last few months. This will soften the blow if we come second. But I really do believe we will have deserved to come second due to the way we played over the whole season. Hopefully this will mean that we will go on to win the title next season
Deserved or not.

IMO, talking about how "lucky" goals or results are is more pointless than talking about a team "deserving" it.  You make your own luck in football most of the time...simple as.
