We battered United in the second half of that game. Ok our first goal was lucky but to say we rode our luck or to suggest we didn't deserve to win is just wrong.
Chelsea away we were immense. They created bugger all and didn't even have a a shot on target. Alonso hit the post and Babel nearly scored late on. It was an outstanding display.
I don't believe in "deserve" Mick. The team that gets the most goals wins the game, that's it. "Deserve" never comes into it.
Both the goals were lucky in the first Utd game. It didn't matter how well we played and yes well played better than Utd in both legs this year. However, the fact still remains that without good fortune, that result is a very different matter entirely.
In the first chelsea match, Alonso got a lucky deflection that bounced the ball away from Cech who had the shot covered
and Liverpool put eight men behind the ball for the rest of the game, while they came at us.
even without the "luck" of our deflected goal (how many lampard "lucky" deflected goals have chels benefited from inthe last 5 years?) at that stage in the season, a draw at chels would have been a very decent result.
But we scored early, stayed compact and even had a few chances to put it beyond doubt. I don't remember even being slightly concerned during that game. A perfect away result against a top team.
In the manunited (H) game, bot hgoals had the element of luck, but the type of luck that requires that you're up at the right part of the pitch creating chances and hassling the opponents.
Again - when you beat such a top quality team it generally comes down to those "little details" i.e. mistakes (see Skrtl,M in the CL QF and Vidic,N in our away game at OT for good examples

)
Doc, it doesn't matter how many lucky goals other teams have had. Good fortune smiles on every team, now and again. Every team this and every year has had their slices of luck change to outcome of situations.
And I agree, a draw at the bridge at that time would still have been a great result. Alonso's deflection was the icing on the cake. But, unlike you, I was concerned for the entire game. Chelsea threw everything they had at us in that match, but Liverpool defended very well, putting two banks of four in front of Pepe and twarted Chelsea's attacks.
Also, it doesn't matter what "type" of luck was involved in the goals against Utd. It's still luck.
"luck" or "opposition mistakes" - i'm not sure where the line is drawn for any particular goal. If our goals were "lucky" inthe chels or manc game, does that mean the opposition were "unlucky" to not get anything out of the game?
