In summation - For next season

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby redbeergoggles » Mon May 11, 2009 7:16 pm

If Liverpool are to be eventually equalled in the records department ,I for one, am of the firm belief that next Season ,Rafa's Liverpool will totally usurp the Mancs ,and Benitez will thrive in pushing Liverpool to the absolute pinnacle of Domestic and European football ,and seriously loosen United's grip on this infamous perch Taggart seems so obsessively intent in knocking us off .
This Season has been a strange one ,and while I am sure, I am not alone in wanting to eradicate the heart stopping games that introduced a form of kamikaze defending not seen since the days of Babb and co ,I strongly believe (hope) that the likes of the Arsenal home game and Chelsea away will not raise their ugly heads again ,whilst being spectacular to watch ,it has no place in the logistics of Liverpool's play for the future .
I ardently feel that Liverpool's form this Season has been exceptional ,especially the latter part of the season (albeit for the sporadic annomilie ),as for the infamous draws that have been the subject of much conjecture ,sometimes opponents base their entire Season on one game plan ,with the emphasis firmly being on defending for their proverbial lives ,and just sometimes are more accomplished in that  aspect of the game ,then there is luck ! whilst  it follows the Mancs around with subsequent glee ,it can be for Liverpool an unforgiving mistress ,to say the woodwork saved some of them less illustrious names that visited Anfield and deprived us of points ,would be a serious understatement .
I think next season there will be no place for Lethargy ,no room for complacency ,no quarter will be given ,no place or home for nearly men ,or the obligatory valiant losers ,no half hearted tackles ,no sporadic injections of heart its all or nothing   ,no more finishing second .
I expect Rafa to oust all of the above .
So finally in summation ,I would like to offer the following points for next season ...........................
1. The realization that Benitez is the best manager to take us forward and to build an eventual dynasty ,the likes not seen since Shanks n Paisley .
2. The atmosphere at Anfield :Has at times this season been a disgrace ,and a source of much amusement to opposing fans .
3. Whenever you have a quiet moment with your thoughts ,away from the hysteria and conjecture the Media drags up  ,remind yourself how lucky you are to support this glorious team ,whether you be from Liverpool or Timbuctoo
4. Leave the hate and condemnation of your team to the Mancs or the equally abhorrent Chelsea fans ,enough people truly despise us without us slating ourselves ,let the plasticity of the modern fan not fester in your words ,leave the bile to the Media .
5. Finally and most importantly lets believe people "Lets Believe" .... how many managers have left Ferguson a quivering wreck ,he knows we are coming and there is little or nothing he can do to stunt the resurgent Liverpool's evolution into something seriously resembling the majesty of our illustrious past .......
So what would your 5 pts be ,what priceless pearls of wisdom would you put forward for next season lets call them Rules to live by ......

1.Back the players and manager as they all do what the think is best for the club
2.Always believe - so many people gave up the ghost way back in jan about the title
3.When those players pull on that red shirt they deserve are support not to be slagged off constantly
4.We are good enough to win the prem if we could play our starting 11 but we cant so we need better options
5.YNWA

I'm not sure whether or not I "believe" from 12,000 miles away makes an awful lot of difference to anybody, so I'll leave the "belief" and the "faith" stuff to those who feel they are close enough to make a difference. Equally, if I think players or the manager have made a mistake, or done some good things, or I fancy a quick debate on zonal marking, I'm fairly sure they don't read this forum so I'll be able to do so without damaging their self esteem. If they do occasionally trawl through here, it won't be long before they've got the good sense like most to skip my posts anyway.

So I'll keep my "five pointers" for the football side of the club. I "believe" if we stuck to these we'd maximise our chances of winning the league.

1. Don't mass rotate from game one. I think we've kind of got this one now, even the manager is talking about the change of direction in this regard so hopefully it continues. My one concern is that save for the odd position, our first elven is pretty obvious. Should though we sign a couple of good players in the Summer, I can imagine Rafa's finger hovering over the "Uber style-DO NOT PRESS" button, with his wrist clamped by his other hand, caught in an internal struggle. Don't do it Rafa, resist. Please.

2. Set up attacking and go for it. If it goes wrong, attack even more to drag yourself out of the mire. Self explanatory really.

3. In the transfer windows, forget about quantity and buy quality. Buy genuine first team players, not to give us "options or possibilities", but to go straight into a situation where they are potentially a first team regular.

4. Only rant when you're behind. Very important lesson this one. I've really enjoyed Rafa's attempts over these last few weeks in anttempt to destabalise Man Utd. It's legitimate and it's sensible because we need snookers. He might want to consider being pictured throwing darts at an effigy of Ferguson, burning a Man Utd flag in the centre circle of Anfield or actually conceding the title as of now, and declaring that whatever happens he's going to play the reserves in every match from now on. Anything he can dream up which might make them take their eyes off the ball in the remaining fixtures is worth a shot. You don't however ramp up the rants while you're top, and that was a big mistake this season. When you're top, you shut the feck up and keep winning.

5. If and when we do sign a good player or two in the Summer, I hope we expend some time effort and energy into their wellbeing. I hope if it's a striker and he scores two goals in a match, we give him a runout in the next game. I hope that we praise him up a bit, give him time to settle, give the club and the team a chance to see a return on our investment.

I think if we do those five things, we'll go very close to winning the title, just as we have this season and ought to have done the season before.

Mick you are your biggest critic fella ,posters like myself see a lot of intelligence and thought put into your posts ,its just that we differ on some points ,but its not a veritable plethora of subjects we disagree on ,I think there is a great deal of common sense in your posts fella ,its just you need to clear this hurdle of believing everyone is against you .
There will always be a Ying for a Yang who cares if no-one concurs with your views that's what makes us unique ,we refuse to be swayed in our respective opinions .

I suspect that like myself you wear your heart on your sleeve ,and tell it like you see it ,but this regurgitation of the Keane scenario ,and the continual reference to 12,000 miles distance  please Mick your better than that fella

Finally Mick don't take this as confrontational ,it is in no respect a slant on you personally ,I just think you are an integral part of this forum and its a shame these issues are masking a good poster ....

Hi guys, long time reader but I hardily ever post.

Imo we only need three players for next season, given our likely budget and want to minimise squad disruption.

1) Barry - Absolute must. He's now a fair price, good age, top player and most of all he's versatile. LB,LM,CM all covered. UTD's most important players are the likes of O'Shea, Fletcher, Brown and Park Ji Sung. Quality squad players that don’t moan when on the bench but still perform when called upon. Benni aside we really lack these type players and our final league position will reflect UTD's strength in depth over ours.

2) Tevez - Another must. Top quality and seasoned EPL player. Can easily pull a shift on either wing, in the Gerrard hole or even upfront. We aint gona get a Torres style back up who’s just gona sit on the bench, we need a player who can fit in anywhere, like all UTD's forwards do.

3) Glen Johnson (or any other RB gem Raffa might find on footie manager). A right back with pace will revolutionise the whole team, providing more width and overlap with Dirk upfront stretching defences. While also giving Carra some help at the back. If ever we needed some defends with pace to burn and recover back then its now. Arbeloa will then become a very useful squad player for us.

I prefer us to sign players we havent heard of. I never heard of Reina, Alonso, Aurelio, Babel, and before the world cup that West Ham signed him Mascherano. This way, my lack of knowledge in this kind of player harbours no expectations but the thrill of having a gem eventually playing for us who not many people have heard of fillls me with confidence. I would not, however, want us signing Gareth Barry at the end of the season. I didnt want him last season and the same goes for the coming one, he would be a waste of money.

good post - i agree with that.

(but would add a CB as one of our main requirements)

I don't think a priority is to reduce rotation, extra reach-arounds for star players from Rafa or even the correct time for ranting   - I reckon Oaksey has hit the nail on the head though - extra cover & quality in midfield, a more pacey option at RB and a versatile striker ... job done

The biggest question regarding next season is how do we utilise bermensteins match thread starting capabilities?

1.Do we get bermenstein to start every match thread from the first game of the year?

2.Do we use him for big games and the run home like we have this year?

1. Build on the Momentum
Even if we don't win the title this year, it's coming
I hope Rafa concentrates on complementing the present team instead of another massive shuffle and rotation
2. Garner more support
We're the fans of one of the most massive clubs in the world
Let's act like it. No more booing the boys, and always keeping fatih in the team
While forums like this enable us to share our thoughts and opinions, let's keep in mind that this is a Liverpool Forum
Having differing opinions is perfectly understandable, but I hope we don't resort to flaming one another and respect the other party's opinions more
3. Focus Focus Focus
I hope the lads are able to keep their focus and momentum going, as we seem to lose it more often than not during the past years
It's always been either the christmas season or in Jan/Feb that we undo all the good starts that we've been having
The only True Reds in england...........
