Pfa awards... - ...giggs player of the year?

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby Ace Ventura » Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:06 pm

Its a shocker of a list and the whole PFA nomination process is a joke anyway.
As it is voted for half way through the season, or just passed half way anyway so anyone that has a great second half of the season is overlooked really.

I personally think Torres has already done as much as Ronaldo but he was out for the first half of the season injured so doesnt deserve it either.

I dont like saying it but Cahill should be in there as well i reckon.

This shows up the PFA thingy to be the joke it is. 5 Utd players? It's ridiculous. Ferdinand hasn't been that hot and Giggs is a good player, but player of the year? No way.

Others here are right. Votes need to be at the end of the season and limited to one player per team.

"Player of the year" is feckin stupid anyway. Sure, they gave it to Beckham one year...fucks sake.  :no

I think Giggs is part of a/the campaign to recognise his services to the Premiership and if so that makes it a totally inappropriate inclusion. By all means give him a special award, but player of the year is for, well, player of the YEAR and not for long serving players. That would be almost as sad as the fad of "retiring" shirt numbers in tribute to a legend. That is totally disrespectful to all other players who also wore that shirt (number) and all players for the club. The number may have been significant to one player in one era, but the fact is that it is a number and has been graced by many players besides those for whom it is being "retired".

And what happens if say number nine is retired and someone who becomes equally or even more legendary comes along and is unable to wear that number? And where does it stop? They'll be moving on to three digits in the 31st century to make sure they have enough squad numbers!

that'll be the same petulant, poutin, divin Whonaldo that never showed his face for the early part of the season (where most votes are garnered?) and hasn't really done half as much as he did last season when we hav to admit the ladyboy stole headlines regularly. I aint particularly bothered, this b/s "you done well mate, have a beer" thing dont cut no ice with me, but 5 from one team that - by their own admission havent played well most of the season but have dragged out results - is an insult to the other 19 PL teams.

God feckin help us when the football writers awards nominations come out...... it'll jus be whiskeynoses teamsheet.

This is ridiculous. 5 United players and then SG??? WTF is this. If Van der sar was there, Reina should be there. I bet Reina got more assist and gave up less goals. Is Ferguson really that powerful... Why is FIFA bending for United....Xabi is class and definitely one of the best Midfield this year. Better than Giggs for sure.  Bloody hell...

Giggs has played 38 games with 16 of those as a sub, and has scored 3 goals and he is in for Player of the Year BS. Respect the talent and the loyalty to united but really player of the year, one step to far into the BS.

As for ferdinand, what has he done this season?

Ronaldo is half the player he was last season, this year he really is a glorified setpiece and penalty taker.

Were is Anelka, one of the top goal scorers, even Cahill has had a great season for everton, what about players outside the top half.

I think Giggs will win it, just like sheringham did in his last year at Man U, a nice sentamental vote, with the emphasis on the mental bit.

I've been locked in Llando Fritzl's basement, bound and gagged. He said my pen was not as mighty as his (pork)sword, but I was having none of it so he locked me up!!

I have now escaped to post again!
