Pretty much summed the game up, although at 1-0 they were never "safe". Shame they couldn't have done what the bitters did to Chelsea, certainly that result doesn't bode well for the FA Cup final (in terms of viewing)

Man Utd did drop seven points in their last seven games of last season, more relevantly seven in their last six. All of those were away from home, boro, Chelsea and Blackburn with Chelsea inflicting the one defeat. The previous season they didn't need to win their last game of the season, of course they still finished champions so they either started points clear or their challengers also dropped points. We could yet drop more points, we need to make most of our games before we start worrying where the mancs might drop points.

Liverpool last five games of the season

07/08 : P5 W4 D1 L0 PTS 13/15
06/07 : P5 W2 D1 L2 PTS 7/15
05/06 : P5 W5 D0 L0 PTS 15/15
04/05 : P5 W2 D1 L2 PTS 6/15

03/04 : P5 W3 D2 L0 PTS 11/15
02/03 : P5 W3 D2 L0 PTS 11/15
01/02 : P5 W4 D0 L1 PTS 12/15
00/01 : P5 W4 D1 L0 PTS 13/15

P40 W27 D8 L5 PTS 89 (Average 11/15)

Only once in the past eight seasons have we won all our last five games. London seems to be a recurring curse :

07/08 : Away draw at Birmingham (Relegated)
06/07 : Home draw to Charlton (Relegated), lost away to Fulham and away to Portsmouth
05/06 : no dropped points
04/05 : Home draw to Middlesboro, lost away to Crystal Palace (relegated) and Arsenal
03/04 : Home draws to Newcastle and Fulham
02/03 : Lost away to Chelsea, lost at home to Man City
01/02 : Lost away to Tottenham
00/01 : Home draw to Chelsea

13 games out of 40 we dropped points, EIGHT of those to London clubs and we still have to play West Ham and Tottenham who we failed to beat in the corresponding fixtures last season (lost at Upton Park, drew at home to Tottenham - two Robbie Keane goals wasn't it?) And some of those dropped points are poor including way too many dropped against sides who ended up relegated - once each in three of the last four seasons and we have to play three sides facing possible relegation. Liverpool have lost 14 games out of 98 to sides newly promoted to the Premiership, and drawn another 25 which is not a good record.

i think we have to take heart from the fact that we're playing pretty well at the moment and in prev  seasons when we've gone out of the CL "early" we've dropped very few points in the run-in (zero in one case)

3 games vs arsenal for the mancs is gonna be pretty tough

Wouldn't surprise me at all if United got done by Boro in a few weeks. Like us, their record up there is shockingly poor. I also think Arsenal will take something of them.

The problem will be us taking maximum points. I'm worried about the West Ham game in particular.

Man Utd still look fairly average at the moment, their luck will not last. I can see other teams beating them, certainly if Arsenal play as well against them as against us they'll batter them.

I mean they could easily have drawn last night and were under a lot of pressure before their second goal, at home, from Pompey. No disrespect to Pompey but they aren't really that good, they've got two of our rejects for a start.  :D

Boro are the lowest scorers in the Premiership, surprisingly enough given WBA are in it. Man Utd drew there last season, won there the season before. Boro were pretty feeble last season, even more so this which makes our loss there even more disgraceful. I might take solace out of injuries to nobhead and O'Shea, but neither are key to the manc side. We can but hope for a cumulative effect of reduced resources meaning players playing more and more exposed to injury/suspension.

I too am worried about our trip to UP, theory suggests teams with little to play for are easier to beat, but how often do they turn up trumps and beat you? And we have won five times there and lost five times there in the Premiership (including last season) a pretty ordinary record.

I suggested we should give up on the CL and that didn't go down very well, plenty on here believing we could do the double when in fact it* may cost us. T'was after the win in Madrid that we lost to Boro, although to have not played that game we'd have had to have gone out at the group stage and maybe even then we'd have had to have finished bottom to avoid being in Europe (UEFA playing a day later for TV purposes making that a competition to avoid)

*success over Real Madrid, being overambitious, losing Gerrard (last game against Chelsea, 1st leg), etc

If you wanna see football played like 'heaven' - Maradona played it, he was and is the 'greatest' .. oh and look inside Gerrard's locker .. he has a photee of the genuis that was Maradona.. and further there was a queue outside Rafa's office when Diego visited Melwood to see his then prospective Captain of Argentina - Carra's clan turned up too.. gawd what a DISGRACE ay .. clueless  :D

I feel you might be slightly biased. Personally I rate Pele as a greater player than Maradona plus he has a hell of a lot more class than the drug taking, cheating Maradona. Maradona was a hell of a player though, just a shame he's such a c0ck.
