I'm confused ??? Is this a debate about Tom Cruise or the existence of God ! :D

Maybe the two are inextricably linked and Tom and God are the same person ? :D

Ok, Rain Man first.
Hoffman got the oscar, and acted well, but Cruise had to show the human side of the entire film.

A few Good Men. Nicholson only in it for like 15 minutes, Cruise carries the rest.

Magnolia is a brilliant film, its an ensemble piece where everyone is perfect.

Lions for Lambs is a thought provoker, show me anyone that could have played the part?

The Color of Money was Newmans film, but Cruise did his part, and no one else on the planet at the time could have done that.

Top Gun was the first big movie he made, and it is a good movie.

Risky Business was class as well, and the Outsiders.

He has made film after film that people want to see again and again. Yet all that peopole say is that hes wacky.

Hes had 3 oscar nominations, won 3 golden globes.

im sounding like i got a crush no him now lol, but you gotta appreciate good acting. And show me anyone else barr pacino and de niro who has made as many films that have done so well...

I rest my case.

For the record the ONLY film I've rated Tom Cruise in and hasn't been mentioned is Collateral but again like so many of his films he was rather upstaged by the supporting Actor Jamie Foxx................

Done so well as in box office etc doesnt make him a good actor mate - it just means lots of people go to watch his films which in fairness they do . Many people will go to watch his films just because he is in it not becuase he is actually any good at acting . Like i say most in fact all of his early films were all predictable in the plot with the "love of a good woman " getting him through .

A few good men - the 15 mins that Jack was in it made it a decent film - the rest of it was toilet . Jerry Maguire was only decent when cuba was in it , same with other films of his .

Top Gun is a pile of poo , same with Days of thunder,Vanilla Sky , Minority Report , Far And Away - The one were he is the assisan ,War of the Worlds , Mission Impossible and MI3 (thought 2 was decent but that was mainly cause of Dougray Scott), have i missed any ?

Risky Business was decent and Outsiders ok .

Well you said you liked Mission Impossible 2 which was by far the worst. People go against him because of his religious views...

His films are class, me and millions of others aint embarressed to admit it.

He is weird tho

well i thought MI2 was decent but mainly cause i thought Scott was good in it as opposed to anything to do with Cruise . I dont go against him cause i think he is weird or because of his freaky scientology stuff (which is an all together different subject) , i go against him cause i think he is sh it and majority of his films i think are shit

We'll agree to disagree. I think hes made memorable movies. he was good inCollatorrell, theres a scene in Last Samurai where he takes on 4 Americans in one shot which he did himself which is class, and he'll only get better. He has had way more hits than misses, whch for most actors is a great strike rate.
Look at everyone from Keanu to Norton, all have made a load of poor films, not Cruise.

for cinematography you have to love Vanilla Sky and Eyes Wide shut.

Judge has spoken :D

I did seriously enjoy that film though and only saw it a few months ago due to my pre-conceived idea of what a Tom Cruise film was going to be like but I was more than pleasantly surprised. Sometimes actors have an unfair press and become unfashionable for other reasons other than their acting ability.

The film uses some unique angles and it's different. Loved it !

Best cinematography I've seen since "Road to Perdition" ----- Was Tom in that ! :D

Check out Eyes Wide Shut, purely for Some Kubrick brilliance, LA Confidential or anything David Fincher has done
