  the "midfield" being the region just in front of our goal when corners are taken?

Point taken, but IMO we were lucky only to concede 3.  Every time they had the ball they looked like scoring, and they walked through our midfield as if we were Blackburn  :D

Masch, I'm sure you will agree, will help tonight.

Mash will help us be a bit more solid defensively but we need to be more adventrous and attacking - not sure if that is really mash forte .

just kidding

the point is though, i'm sure teams have played worse and been dominated far more than we were but could defend a simple corner and come away with a very good result (STOKE FFS!!?!?)

(especially as we'd scored in the first 5mins ... )

in terms of mascherano, he has to play - he's been instrumental in virtually all our big games this season, and ballack & co dominated the midfield last week in a way that is rarely seen against our system

The reason Liverpool lost was because their marking on corners was shit. Chelsea, for all their domination of the midfield, only scored 1 goal from open play all game.

If the marking had been tighter, that game ends 1-1 and they wouldn't be facing the uphill battle they have on their hands tonight.

Still...I'm strangely optimistic about the game. Wierd really...

both ivanovic goals came from a ball watching skrtel - you would think he'd stick to him or at least run infront of him the 2nd time around - poor defensive display by skrtel, imo, that day.

other than that he's been fine

bring back agger - do not play dossena at the back

as it draws ever nearer i'm kinda gettin nervous as feck.....god knows how the guys cope with it!! I'm more hope-timistic than optimistic, but i see it bein a helluva game. as has been said so many times the Gerrard / Essien thing may well be key, an I'd love nothin more than to see Essien subbed cuz their gameplay didnt come off. So long as we score b4 half time, with or without an equalizer i reckon its certainly game on, an if we have a lead with 10 mins to go an av scored at least 2.....hold ur hats, bumpy ride to come!!

can't believe its only 10 t 3, the day is draggin like feck
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

Essien wont be subbed if he is having probs with gerrard - they will just let him of his leash cause the guy is bloody damn good at good forward as well - better than Bollack

Essiens face is so static and plastic looking, it looks like one of those masks tourists buy when in Africa on holiday

I would actually play Dossena on the left flank instead of Riera tonight.

                  Reina

       Carra   Hyypia   Agger
Kuyt                            Dossena

         Xabi           Mash
                Gerrard

          Torres    Babel

Go for broke and helps us getting raped from set pieces. Hyypia needs to be there.

basically....

at the moment Liverpool can score goals. Lots of goals. at least 4 a game. That is a big plus in our favour.
Chelsea for all there excellence - are :censored:. The look a bit leaky at the back so as long as torres put everything away that drops to him we'll be ok.

Liverpool will progress tonight folks, you just wait and see. A european Liverpool team is by far superior to any chelsea (no history) team. yes I know they beat us 3-1 last week but that really was a 1 off game for us.

my prediction :

Chelsea 1 v 3 Liverpool (Gerrard, Torres 2) ...

...goes to penalties...

...Liverpool win.

It's another of those "I'll show my A*** in Woolworth's window if we get through " moments except Woollies isn't around anymore !

In 2005 prior to the Istanbul I wasn't confidant so what do I know ! :p

It's possible we could overcome a 3-1 deficit but sadly the damage was done in the 1st leg ???

Just get to half time one goal up, then it's game on for the 2nd half.

My thoughts as well mate. Get ot half-time 1-0 up and they will be feeling a little bit twitchy come the 2nd half.
