I think we were up for it and wanted to beat them
I think we were confident after beating them twice in the league.
Maybe if we were complacent it was the thought that it was europe and in front of a home crowd.
If it would have been any other team I am pretty sure we would have won.
I fear that chelsea, in europe, now have the upper hand on us

No fella we were dismissed with disconcerting ease ,that can only be blamed on complacency ,if it was confidence then surely we would have played with the guile that was needed to rescue something from this game .
Chelsea players were simply better and the worrying thing was you sensed the overwhelming belief Chelsea wanted this more.
We left Anfield shellshocked ,my lad went straight to bed too emotional to talk ,in one word totally perplexed, at the outcome of a game he had like all other fans, dreamed about us winning comfortably . If thats not the traits of Complacency I am at a loss to explain Roger .

You're right and you're opening post was very good. When it went 1-1 I had a horrible feeling it was like ', we could lose!' I hadn't even thought about that. I was certainly complacent, I new it would be tough but just presumed we would brush them aside, at home at least.
I do feel the players suffered with this a little. We started well scored but and seemed to drop off the pace, it seemed like they were going through the motions almost expecting what has become the norm at home in europe to happen again, to just occur. Couple this with the best football chelsea have played in ages and having the best opposing tactics at Anfield all season, WE were brushed aside with worrying ease.
I do think we will come out fighting tomorrow and we should play somewhere near again and hopefully take 3 points...
Too many players had bad nights. Whether they were outplayed, marked out of the game or just plain poor, it should be written off as a bad day from the fans point of view. The players on the otherhand need to watch the game over and over... I would hope Rafa shows everyone up and they learn more from this than the games against Madrid, United and Villa.
stmichael wrote:I don't think we were complacent, we just played badly. We had every right to be confident going into the game because we were playing well but all of our big guns just didn't perform. Having said that, Chelsea produced probably the best away display at Anfield that I've seen since Valencia in 2002. They won't play that well again this season imo.

Bad Bob wrote:I think the idea of complacency has got merit when it comes to our approach to the CL this season. After all, we've won the thing and reached a second final in the last five years. Last year we got to the semi-finals as well and were within a whisper of going to another final. We've gotten used to going far in this tournament and we've gotten used to locking horns with Chelsea at some stage in the proceedings. Perhaps, deep down, maybe some of the lads and certainly some of the fans have got it in their heads that we'll always manage to pull through somehow at this stage and at least reach the semis again, if not the final itself. And, while we lost to Chelsea last season, we have seemed to have their number in this competition. Perhaps, when you tally all that up, we went into the match Wednesday a little flatter than we might otherwise have been. One key thing to remember here is that, while we've been there, done that and bought the t-shirt, Chelsea are absolutely desperate to win this thing. Abramovich wants it more than anything and they're all gutted about how the final turned out last season. So, they've got an extra incentive that we, frankly, don't have. That might go some way to explaining why we were second best for most of the match the other night.

Isn't that the formation we played on Wednesday night?

No we played gerrard in behind torres and 2 DM that formation works quite different and is mainly to stop attacks up middle.
Mine is to gang up 3 on 2 on wingers and full backs and would give counter attacks op's if implemented right.
