LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA - 7.45 wed 8th april 2009

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think there might have been an element of slight complacency last night. First we beat Real Madrid, then we beat Utd which set of their own chain reaction of nervousness, then we had Gerrard being hailed as the best player in the world. It's enough to make any team feel good about themselves. After that I think we lost the hunger and edge that we had on those 2 years we knocked Chelsea out.

The way I see it, we always have a habit of making things hard on ourselves so if it has to be done this way then so be it. The pressure will be off us and on Chelsea to finish us off. All it takes is 1 early goal or at least in the first half and we can do it.

3-0 sounds good.  :eyebrow

I've felt so shyte all day today. :(  My ex was going back to Leicster and wanted to meet me at St Pancreas to see her off. I said I was on a downer and was going home from work (even though I had been in the pub since lunch :D). She text me back saying 'I thought it were serious'. Bitch.

I wish all women were like Nanny, CGGY and Zara. Would be so much easier for me.

:censored: what am i saying im so :censored:.

Listen - I reckon 2-1 at half time and we're in with a very good chance. 2-0 at half time is a bit too optimistic, but 2 goals we will need in that first half, no doubt. If we can push this to extra time, we're laughing.

This is a forum, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to talk.  And if they are complaining about a manager who will be here for 5 years and believe we won't win, how are they glory seeking?

My mrs is a red whole family is her dad is always telling me storys from the 60s 70s and 80s its great and he is heavy drinker so he always got booze around class !

I deffo picked right woman she sometimes shouts loader then I do lmao.

As for 50/1 for 3-0 wonder what odds r for 3-1 which I think might just be score line to think if we put them out on pens at there ground now that would be class.  :bowdown

Fact is, we were sh*t last night all over the pitch. Chelsea have quality, probably more so than us, and it told. Fact is, you play poor against class opposition and you get punished. Our mistakes were schoolboy, and some of those have persisted all season with set pieces. It seems to be our Achilles Heel. F*ck the debate about Zonal Marking. It's just another stick to beat the manager with and it's total bollox. It's a system, and all systems have their pro's and con's. Fact is - and I keep using that term as a point opener - is that some of our players have to take the responsibility for giving away two goals that effectively had the proverbial effect of kicking us in the bollox. Ball watching. Schoolboy stuff.

Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up and say well done to the opposition. I'm sure even they were pinching themselves and their good fortune, and asking themselves "would the real Liverpool please stand up!". What hurts most is not the defeat, but the manner of which it came about. We are far better than that. We let ourselves down.

That is a quality post. Honest and accurate.

That's doable although we have to make sure our players are fit and ready for the possibility of extra time. Last time we were undone in extra time so we need to make sure if it does go the distance we are prepared. That means perhaps resting players on the weekend.

Chelsea didnt play fantastic. We played :censored:. To a man.
Rafa got it wrong. Simple. Some would have you believe he has no influence at all and the game just pans itself out.
Wrong!
He calls the shots and pulls the strings. He made a bloomer last night and we would all be better off accepting that and moving on. Hopefully he has learned and will set things right for the second leg.
If not expect much of the same

Yep - fickle.. ppl like you who can't wait to see failure, .. funny how 'you lot' have been notably absent with praise for how well the team has been playing of late..  we didn't play well for the majority of the game; Gerrard was not fully fit, Mash our lynch pin, absent and towrads the end, the team looked tired..  so we pick our selves up and get on with it ......  as all good footballing teams do .. SIR  !

Who has been refusing to give praise lately certainly not me and not Sir Roger either. In fact I don't know of any poster on here who has not been delighted with recent results so I demand that instead of just coming out with this tired rhetoric you actually try and proove it!!
I have been praising the team like mad lately but equally when they play sh1t, as agiants Chelsea, I will always say so instead of burying my head in the sand and pretending that things aren't wrong and it didn't happen as is evidently your tactic.

Ive just watched the match again and you can see how chelsea stuck to their game plan. We were out-muscled and overpowered in midfield by hessien and ballack. The defence was terrified of drogba. Even cashley tweedy was dishing it out! They basically bullied us out of it.
Kuyt running into dead ends and lucas giving the ball away didnt help either.
They seemed to be doubling up on us all the time and have a man over. None of our players played well. I cant see that happening again.
Bring on stamford bridge!

Unbelievable, after weeks of being positive and this place a happy place, we lose a game and hell break loose :glare:

We lost, end of, Chelsea were the better team, FACT. The game was too open, and many of you here called for Rafa go on the attack and he did from the first whistle rather than being cautious like always. We faced our consequences by getting beat in our own backyard. The players were sh!te, Rafa played the same eleven he played againt Manc scum at Old Trafford (which we thumped 4-1) and now people say Rafa got it wrong! The mind boggles ???

The Thing is, we did so many mistakes that cost us, is because WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH at the back, as I have always said before. Skrtel, again not the player many of you thought he is. I'm sorry, I like him, but he isn't up to it, Ivanovic beat him in the air to get the first goal, and he and carra were tormented by Dogbreath.

Realistically speaking, its still possible to qualify to the semi final, but I don't see it, we will either draw or lose in the stamford bridge on tuesday. I'm dissapointed as much as all of you, but our Champions League campaign has ended and we are heading to another trophyless season ( Im hoping we nick the League!)  :(
