When we got the early goal I really fancied we could do some serious damage but you have to take your hat off to Chelsea, they were excellent, they did to us what we do to so many other teams away from home in Europe. I'd agree with the notion we didn't know whether to 'stick or twist', we sat back a bit and Chelsea simply took all the initiative, I was desperate to get to half-time 1-0 for a good ten minutes leading up to their goal and unfortunately the entire Anfield crowd seemed to feel the same way. That's the first time i've ever been to Anfield for a big European game and NOT come back completely bursting with pride for our fans, there wasn't the usual passion, furvour and sheer noise of previous fixtures so we didn't really help the lads as we ususally do :( As for individual players last night, the phone-ins on the way home were full of the usual 'blame Lucas' calls but from where I was sitting he had a solid game, was he that bad?

A couple of things stood out for me. 1- It's the first time (since we sold Keane) that we've really been caught out with only having one quality striker on the books. We really could have done with a Crouch (or another target-man) at 60 minutes today, we could have dropped Gerrard into midfield (away from Essien's shadow) and gone two-up-top. 2- As well as Arbeloa and Aurelio have played this season, they both showed their limitations (going forward) yesterday, we will need to upgrade at one of the full-back slots (right-back makes the most sense) over the summer.

It wasn't to be last night but I guess the Champions League final won't be able to ruin my wedding now! 3 points at Blackburn with the mancs dropping points at Sunderland could be just the tonic to wash this result down with though.

Yeah good food for thought. Thank god we still have the league to think about.

But some people seem to be giving up on this tie too easily. We are still in with a shout.

Surely if they sacked him he would end up with a massive payoff ala Houllier.

yep that was always the problem giving him a new contract before the end of the football year.

its going to be down to how he cn comeback from this and if he can keep his gob shut, so far as mind games he 2-0 down.

I think what lost us them game beside of the obvious (weak personal performance ,weak Zone defending ) was that Rafa Benitz Mentality kicked in as soon as we scored the first goal - for Years our players are programmed to play for a result this is Rafa understanding of the game ,get a result hold your ground play it out till it's over - those instincts kicked in the moment we got the result Rafa wanted....and this is my criticism of him he so wants to be in control of every move and every pass he just kills the joy out of football - if the players could have forget for a few more games of this brainwash it might have been different....but old habits are hard to die...let's hope for another game for the history in London.

er some of us was. anyway thats not what i am saying, i am saying that Rafa needs to keep his gob shut before the game and work harder to beat the teams on the park and not off it.

But that mentality never kicked in against other teams over the last month or so - we just got beat by the better team on the night and couldnt control them or the game .

And Brainwashing players ?!?!?

Keep his gob shut ?? every manager holds a press conference ?? what has Rafa said wrong this time that has so harmed people ?

And im pretty sure Rafa was working bloody damn hard to beat them on the park - but we got beat by a team playing better than us - no fault to the manager there - just beaten by a better team on the night - it happens and we move on .

We didnt kill the game when we had the chance, we let them came to us, we defended very poorly etc... we deserved to lose. No use of blaming the gaffer or the system.
