Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I was not happy to see Benitez earns another new contract, I am quite sure those American owners have made a big mistake. However, those owners do not care or give a :censored: on how LFC does or achieve, apart from securing big money out of the club, when they will eventually sell the club with a manager with long contract, it is an attractive selling offer.

I just do not understand why Benitez always selects weaker players in his negative first team, ahead of some good players, where he keeps them to warm up the bench seats, like Hyypia, should be instead of the useless and clumsy Skrtel, who was at fault for two goals, and Insur should be ahead of Aurelio, mind you, I know Benitez is a lousy manager, but I thought, probably one day will come out of his negative shell, but this will never happen.
Another disappointed season, but somehow is expected under the genius Benitez!!!!!

Tonight was awful all around.

Worst defending ive seen from us for a long long time, and zonal marking although works a lot of the time, does have its weaknesses.

Lucas was looking a little more confident in the 1st half but was still rubbish and got much worse as the game whent on. Alonso had an off game too.

Torres didnt have a perticularly bad game because he had a lot to deal with but could have done a little better.

All in all a bad performance, but credit to Hiddink who got the tactics 100% spot on, I bearly even noticed Gerrard.

Although its very likely that we wont beat Chelsea 3 - 0, we have got monster masch back and they will be without Terry.

So lets give our red men all the support they deserve at Stamford Bridge. Win or loose, walk on with hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone

:bowdown  agreed, and with Terry out we may have a chance, they could think game is over, and sit back, if we getan early goal, the jitters may take over, then again Sunderland could beat the Manx on Sat??

Anyway .................back to the game.

Sometimes you just have to hold up your hands and admit we were beaten by the far better team on the night after a bright start.

This was quite posssibly the first time we have played them in the CL where we were marginal favourites but on the night Chelsea were immense and even their fringe players (Malouda, Kalou etc  ...) had very good games but in Michael Essien they possessed the best player on the pitch by a mile. He nullified Gerrard, hardly missed a pass all night and gave as good a performance as I've seen from an away team player at Anfield for a long long time.

And all the time whilst Chelsea were playing at the top of their game many of our lesser players were off theirs. Arbeloa, Riera, Lucas (again), Dossena, Babel and Skirtel were all found wanting at this highest level.

It's a big ask to overturn such a deficit and I'm not sure we can do it especially if Chelsea play anywhere near the level they played at tonight

Spot on. Although you give Lucas too much credit. He was awful and is not good enough to be playing in such an important match. The fact that he was so :censored:, Gerrard had to play deeper just to cover him so Torres was isolated.

This is what I was expecting to happen, when Benitez is going to miss up badly, and through away the whole season, and end up empty handed for the fourth successive seasons, not a trophy apart from a second or even third spot!

We have too many average and inconsistent players, like Kuyt, Riera, Lucas, Aurelio, Dosenna, Skrtel, etc. where all of these players should not be on first team sheet!

I really dont want us to go out. I dont want our last chance of silverware depending on the Mancs dropping points

It's a big ask but it's 11 v 11 and we won by a higher margin at Utd so it's not impossible. However i can understand how it might look impossible after tonight.

I wonder now how Rafa will approach the Blackburn game. Will he rest players or concentrate on the league now?

its never over with this team if anyone in world football can turn this result round its liverpool fc, but i aint gonna hold my breath
my brother said it could be a blessing because we can but all our efforts into the league
but the only way tjis will be a blessing for me is if we do win all our games and utd slip
