You serious? Take care over there Reg that place is nasty. I went once years ago and hated it. But still fair play if we end up making it all the way again.  :)

As to your team for the game on Wednesday, I'd play Hyppia at centre half instead of Skertel, he's been a bit ropey the last couple of games and I'd go for the experiance of Hyppia to deal with Drogba, also Mascherano is banned so Lucas looks likely to play.

Welcome to the forum mate.

Yeah I don't think we wanted them but to be honest to win this you have to beat whoever is in front of you and in the last few years we have beaten the very best this competition has to offer so if anything our opponents probably feel more worried than we do, especially given our current run of form.

Besides no point getting worried about this leg. If we went all the way we would potentially play Barca and the scum in the final.

btw Bayern got hammered on the weekend so expect Barca to steamroll them.

Bayern are VERY dependant on the CL for income, until last year (maybe they still are) they were the club with the single greatest financial earnings for CL since its inception so safe bet to say they were resting players.

In The Times:

Liverpool are confident that Steven Gerrard will be fit for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea at Anfield tomorrow evening.

The England midfield player suffered a groin strain in the 1-0 Barclays Premier League win away to Fulham on Saturday, but he is expected to train with the squad today after having the injury assessed yesterday - news that will be warmly welcomed by Rafael Benítez, the manager.

Gerrard's absence would be a huge blow for Liverpool. Even if they have coped without their captain and Fernando Torres, the striker, in the competition this season, Gerrard's form has been instrumental in Liverpool's resurgence in recent weeks, which featured a 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid in the previous round of the Champions League and 4-1 and 5-0 league wins against Manchester United and Aston Villa respectively. Gerrard scored a total of six goals in those three victories.

“There's no doubt he is the best midfielder in the world,” José Manuel Reina, the Liverpool goalkeeper, said of Gerrard. “He's been great this season. I think this has been one of, or probably the best, season of his career.”

This will be the fifth successive campaign that the teams have met in the Champions League, but having been beaten by Chelsea in the semi- finals last season, Liverpool will be desperate to make amends. “I prefer not to think about revenge, but I

think that it's another chance that we have to go through to the semi-finals,” Xabi Alonso, the Spain midfield player, said.

“We are going to face a very good team, we know each other very well and because of that we don't have many secrets. It's a bit strange that this is the fifth successive season we are playing Chelsea in the Champions League, but because of that it can add a little bit more motivation.”

Reina believes that Chelsea - and especially Didier Drogba - have been galvanised by the arrival of Guus Hiddink as interim manager and is wary of the threat posed by the Ivory Coast striker in particular.

“Drogba's one of my favourite players and when the people ask me about who was the most dangerous striker, I always say him,” Reina said.

“I think in a way he's becoming stronger and stronger, but whoever plays up front for them will be difficult to stop.”

With Javier Mascherano suspended, Benítez may opt to play Lucas Leiva in central midfield alongside Alonso and the Brazilian is determined to take his chance should it arise after a difficult season in which he has often been made a scapegoat.

“I know that the Chelsea game is a big opportunity for me and I'll try to make it into the team,” Lucas said. “I'm trying to prove to the fans and all the people that I have the quality to be part of the team.”

wouldn't make any sense for them to rest players, they aren't in a CL qualifying position as of right now. which would be 2/3 years for them not to be in the main european competition.

They also threw on midfielders for defenders as their subs, so they were clearly going for it.

I watched the game and it was 1 -1 for a while and then BAM once one came then they started coming in bunches and Bayern had their chances as well, WOlfsburg just weren't messing up any opportunities, and then once it was a 2 goal game, Bayern went crazy going for it because the winner of the game would go top.  I think only one of the goals was truly shocking defending.
