Liverpool may be embroiled in a race with Manchester United for the domestic title but star striker Fernando Torres has his eyes fixed on winning the Champions League.

The Reds take on Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals at Anfield on Wednesday and Torres said his part in Spain's victorious Euro 2008 campaign has given him the taste of success.

Torres told the club's official website: "Domestic titles are very important but to win the Champions League you are saying we are the best team in Europe.

"This club has a great record in the European Cup but now I want to be a part of that history.

"Winning the European Championship was a great thing for me and I understood what it was to win a major trophy and what I had been missing.

"On the way home from the European Championship I made a promise that I wanted more of this success with Liverpool and it does not come any bigger than the European Cup."

Meanwhile, Torres hailed the decision of Steven Gerrard to sign a new contract, saying the Liverpool skipper is one of the best players in the game.

"Stevie has been getting a lot of praise from some of the best players in the world," added Torres.

"That is quite right because I think he is the best in the world. He is a great team player but he can also win a game on his own when maybe we are not playing so well.

"I would love to see him have a lot more success. I cannot think of a player I would rather be playing with.

"We know it is not going to be easy against Chelsea on Wednesday but both Stevie and I are happy with our form."

The Spanish striker also reiterated his own desire to stay at the club for the long term.

He said: "I have said many times the only club I would leave Atletico Madrid for was Liverpool, and nothing has changed there. They are the only two clubs that are in my heart.

"I have supported Liverpool since I was a boy and I intend on staying here a very long time."

Ive got me serious head on now an i think we will need to win at least 2-0 at Anfield, to have a bit of a comfort zone down there , Anything less than that an its gonna be one of them scary nights in the return, sweating, fingernail biting an nerves janglin. An i couldnt handle that again so a 2-0 lead for me would do it.

For me if we got 2-0 at Anfield I think that would as good as through. Now of course you cannot talk like that but then we know we can get a goal at Chelsea so if they come at us and leave room all we need is 1 goal to finish them off. Even with Drogba back he will not be fit.

I would love 2-0 but Id also take 1-0 with both hands!
The main thing is keeping a clean sheet on Wednesday!
Even a 0-0 at home is not a bad result when you think about it.If we go there with 0-0 they have to win where as a score draw does us!
It would be fantastic to win 2-0 at Anfield, for me that would almost put the tie to bed.
Most people I have talked to are expecting no more than 1 or 2 goals over both legs and they are probably right.Saying that we dont really know what to expect from "Goose" tactic wise!
I reckon they'll plan to get the first goal at our place and then shut up shop!
I hope the tie dont go to pens though...fuc'king kills me watching them! :sniffle

In me heart Barry id take any win but me head says we are gonna need a two goal cushion. An as you said no goal consided. I really dont think a 1-0 will be good enough, im sounding like a defeatist here but a 1-0 taken to theres would put me under to much pressure , feck the players im thinking about my heart
