Dirk kuyt - Peace everyone

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I agree ace, Redman's post was fine (as usual).

I think Kuyt is 28 no? this new contract is good no matter how much you rate Dirk Kuyt for Liverpool, because no matter if you're a Kuyt basher or lover, the player has some reputation in Europe, that is, he's a player we could get money from, and if we left his contract run that would never happen.

While I think I understand what Rafa wants out of Kuyt in the pitch and why he uses him, I have to agree again that he wouldn't be my first choice if I could sign up someone top quality for the position next season.

This Kuyt's season, as discussed before in this thread, has been IMHO good as a whole. He only had a few bad games I remember, and in the few games he was benched Benayoun did well. I do think that when a team wins the league or is close to it isn't despite players, but thanks to players.

This team is doing well this season and we have progressed, but there's still margin to improve. And there are areas that are more likely to be improved than others, for instance I don't think no-one is thinking of a new goalie or feels the need to change much about or regular starting CMs!

Think its a classic case of picking a small part out of someone's post and taking it out of context.

What Redman in wales said was fine, he praised what he sees of Kuyts quality but said that he feels we could have a better player in that position moving forwards.

Spot on imo.

Thats not to say Dirk doesnt deserve his new contract and a place in the squad, just that he shouldnt always be first choice.

Cheers Ace (and Sabre)

I was not slating kuyt. far from it. He's a good player.

If we were to improve our starting 11.. the right side of midfield is definately a position I'd look at... and I think most on here would too.

I agree, Kuyt is fairly :censored: but plays with tonnes of heart, it's a negative signing7contract extension in my opinion. We need players of higher quality than diggler.

Oh just get lost heimdall - negative signing !?!? what a lot of utter cr ap you spout sometimes - Some people really need to open their eyes when it comes to certain players for our team - Kuyt is not sh ite in the slightest and has proved once again this season how big and important player he is for us .

Kuyt isn't a natural RM but he's done a job for us and deserves his contract extension without a doubt.

He's the best player for that position we have (bar Gerrard), but I suspect or certainly hope that Rafa is planning to buy a quality RW/RM.

Kuyt is no world beater but he's still an important player in our squad.

We certainly can get a better player on the right than him.

But that isnt a priority. However if Rafa gets the money to do it he will.

agreed, very easily. Kuyt is by far the most overated player in the squad. Im not disapointed that he has signed a new contract as he is probably worth a squad place, but for people to suggest he has one of our players of the season is nothing short of madness.

Agreed Fowler_7.

He did score some important goals along the way, had a good couple of games with us, but his ability shows that he isn't good enough to start every week. I said this before that he would be a good or excellent squad player, but there are others who are better on the right than him.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

eh... kuyt is kuyt... not his fault that hes played there... has several limitations and it shows in almost every game he plays... iv said it before, besides the few goals he's scored here and there, what else does he contribute in an attacking sense to the team ? Cisse played that role and scored more goals.. does that say anything or doesnt it ?! our very problems this year have been our problems for the past few years, and Kuyt imo...is a part of the bigger problem... getting a new right winger would be my top priority for the summer unless we decide to go 2 upfront in which case Kuyt gets a bench role and it would finally be established as his best position ...  :p

Still I have to agree. However I think given our probable financial restraints, getting someone for that position is probably lower down the list of priorities for Rafa.

some hilarious responses on this thread - who can name a better, more effective  player in Kuyt's position, aside from CRonaldo?

if we've got 50m to spare , let's buy that :censored: to replace the diggler  :bowdown
