How pathetic is formula 1

Louis Hamilton started in the best car and nearly won the tournament in his first year, and won it in his second even though he's very little experience. with a lap or two to go the commentator said the title depended on whether it rained or not - pathetic sport. the british commentator even said that alonso had been the best driver all year.

then a few technical changes to the cars and now Hamilton apparantly stands no chance and Jenson button is now a contender for the title, even though he has been nowhere for last number of years. I'm not insulting either driver, just the ridiculous "so called" sport.

Morons will spend hours watching these cars go round and round for hours. Can we get this :censored: off our t.v? (no jokes about changing channels)

I agree it has barely anything to do with the drivers in the end it's just the cars that matter, pretty pointless really

This is why I like more MotoGP than Formula 1.

Valentino Rossi got a yamaha when nobody won with a yamaha and starting winning with a yamaha.

This formula 1 is more and more about computers, data and simulations than piloting skills.

Yea, Lewis is a sh!t driver who just has a fast car. That's why his team mate (Heikki Kovalainen) who was driving the same car finished.....er......SEVENTH, a whole 45 points behind!!! You clearly don't watch F1 Naill if you're making comments like that. It's not unheard of to have unexperienced rookies blow the field away. What about Michael Owen with that goal in the World Cup when he was only 18, someone that inexperienced must have had better boots than everyone else eh? Did Stephen Hendry have the best cue when he won the title at 17? I could go on......

If it's not down to the cars then how do you explain the difference in the drivers performances this year? Suddenly the likes of Jenson Button are among the best drivers and Hamilton the worst?

And how do football boots or a snooker cue have as much of an impact on the persons performance as the car does to a f1 driver

Unless some footballers have an engine in their boots of course

You can't judge the whole season by one qualifying session. If you look at the qualifying times for last season, there's not much between the front of the grid and the back of the grid when the cars line up. That's where the driving skill comes into it. Today's slowest driver who put in a qualifying time was less that a second slower than the fastest. By rights, over the course of a 60 lap Grand Prix, that driver should be less than a minute behind the winner. Is tht the case? No. Because it's all about driver skill. I admit, F1 is one of those sports where the sportsman is aided by machine, but that machine needs operating. Cars don't drive themselves. You can't put anyone in one of those cars and expect them to deliver the goods. I just think that it's an ignorant stance to say things like there's no skill involved, it's not a sport, it's all about the car etc etc. Lewis Hamilton is an exceptional driver and fully deserving of his World Champion tag.

Yeah of course you have to be a good driver and Hamilton is probably well deserving of being the world champion, the cars do seem to have a massive impact on the results of the races though

Hamilton has even basically said he has no chance this year because Mclaren are so far behind all the other teams, which makes the competition a bit useless if you're looking at driving skill

I think this year is going to be one of the best for F1. They have cut the costs for the teams, reduced the technology and now 3 relatively small teams have outwitted the big boys with this new rear defuser.

If a "new rear defuser" excites you, then you are obviously into the whole engineering side which is fair enough, as that is what formula one is. However, casual watchers want to see drivers race each other.

I never said Hamiltion was rubbish (I hate it when people make up quotes that weren't said) but that how can a world champion have no chance (as is reported this year) to defend his title. How can button now be the best british driver?

didn't mika hakkinon go about 100 races without a win, then some engineering changes made and he won the title two years in a row(i think they were in a row)

Exactly the drivers skill hardly means a thing in the grand scheme of things

Michael Schumacher :nod   , how can you say that its just all about the cars , it depends on the driver as well , they have to make the decision whether they want to overtake , is it worth the risk . Sure the car plays a role as well but they go hand in hand .

Personally i was disappointed with lewis in the qualifying round today and i have to say , it will require loads of skill and determination to retain his title , i'm a big fan but my money is on alonso or kubica

I used to be into it but rapidly lost interest. Its getting all about the cars and less about the drivers which to me seems less of a sport
