That's a bit harsh man. The friendlies are a waste of time I grant you but, internationals of substance are grand. Admittedly, it's not as good as watching the Mighty Reds but I enjoy international football and still find it fascinating. The thing is, England aren't as good as we like to think we are and have failed for years. The hope that we one day might win something or even produce a moderate talent on the left wing holds my interest. There is something incredibly special about an England v Argentina/Germany game in the World Cup - fantastic - I would never miss a game of such importance. Football is fundemantal to our culture and the national team is the figurehead.

Bit of a necessary evil.
More evil than necessary tough

I respect those fellow reds that detest international football and whose only priority is club football. Myself, my first priority is club football aswell (I'd sign right now Spain winning nowt again if that meant a single Liverpool league), but I do care about international football tbph.

Redbeergoggles, not all is bad about international football though. Not everything are rests and injuries. International football also means that Torres goes to Austria costing 40M, and he comes from there costing 50M. International status of player, gives them value. Arbeloa for instance is more valuable for being international and that ultimately is good for the club.

i'll be watchin our game against the dutch with bated breath - i know we dont normally take prisoners in defence an that could be tough on Kuyt an Babel. the Spain games are obviously key to the rest of our season too, so many involved. Thing is, this is the price you pay for success at club level - recognition for the individuals, an lets face it, there aint no-one out there gonna turn down the chance for international football - unless you're regularly overlooked like Carra's always been (england's loss, our gain in my opinion) over the years.

all i'll say is good luck to those who take part (unless you're dutch!!) an for god's sake come home unscathed.

I was more of a Scotland fan than England because they had Dalglish and Hansen ,best international game was Scotland v Holland in the World Cup ,I can remember our house rocking when little Archie Gemmil scored that goal  :D

I know Sabre ,but the same can be said for a player we are hopeful in acquiring, his price would indeed rocket to an unrealistic fee .
Anyway its only England I hate for the puerile behaviour of the press and the ensuing media circus ..

I can understand other posters views, concerning their respective National teams ,but my nationality is Scouse and there is no place for any other team ,other than the Reds ,to say I was unpatriotic would be a serious understatement .....

England have every prospect of winning owt, but no matter how much "club over country every time" fans hate it, there will always be Internationals and the breaks they bring with them. Even Souness had more chance of winning the league than England have of winning a tournament.

Why do they need a friendly and a qualifier? They have been training all week as it is so why not just have the qualifier and scrap the friendly. I hope Stevie, and any other players involved in needless friendlies do not play more than 45 mins.

Supposedly ideal preparation for the qualifier, but that's a bit misleading if anyone in the FA says that because they have contracts with TV (not Terry Venables, but Television) and have to play a fixed number of friendlies/games a year and I believe England are obliged to put out as strong a squad as possible.

Doubt it will make much difference, just means more chance of injury. As much about the £££ these days as the football, they can prepare all they like in the week ahead of a game, but the chances it will change the outcome are slimmer than fat frank's family

I was 11 years old, and sat at home watchin..... I remember Archie turnin the defenders inside out and just performin the miracle to make it 3-1. My mom near had a heart attack when
I yelled and got threatened with bed (she still dont understand football!!), but that dont come close to watchin Mcfadden scorin at Hampden a coupla years back gainst the dutch. We've had some great results against them, and I'd take a draw satdy, but in all honesty a 3-3 draw for the Scots would be eclipsed by a win against Fulham and villa parkin the bus at the theatre of queens for a hard fought 0-0!! I really jus want next week outta the way, all the lads back in tip top condition and (Kuyt and Babel aside) bubblin from the international week.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Was watching thing about Brian Clough few nights ago it was fantastic now I was very young when that guy was in his prime so I didn't know alot about him but what a fantastic manager.

Now I can only speak about us english fans but would we all feel different about england if he had got the job back in the day , I am sure england would have performed with alot more passion then they do now.

Its almost like we have forgotten what enjoyment is to play for your national team due to lack of sucess we have had.

Not saying players don't try in curret team but he was the type of manager you wanted to play for and england team is crying out for a manager like that now.

We talk about top 10 greatest managers he would have to have been in my top 3 of all time I am sorry I wasn't around to see him in his prime.

I think he seriously tainted his reputation with his remarks about Hillsborough and Liverpool fans ,it took far to long for the man to make an apology  :veryangry
