Because we were concentrating on winning the champs league mate.

Now you are starting to ask the right questions.  :D

I have always maintained that Rafa's rant in January was a huge mistake but I will also say that that this rant from whiskey nose is equally bizare. I don't really know who to trust, I expect the truth is most probably somewhere in the middle. Rafa has made a lot of :censored: tranfers over the 5 years, lets see if that changes now that he has supreme power.

BTW Loved Ciggy's post saying that we have no one to bring off the bench for Torres, and only valuing Keane at 10 million. Can she then explain how that does not make Rafa look like a complete and utter idiot?

When a new manager comes (especially one coming of 2 back to back leagues in Spain) it is only natural he will want to bring in some new players. And it must be fair to say Saint if the squad was really alreay more or less perfect then they would have performed better in that last season Houllier was in charge.

The difference between Rafa's 'rant' and this one from Fergie is that the team did not back up his words by beating Stoke and later on a host of other teams. However Utd normally DO the business on the pitch so Fergie never comes out looking like a :censored:. Id like to think that last weekends result will have gone some way towards throwing a spanner in Utds works. Only time will tell.

I never said or intended to say the squad was perfect mate, just not as bad as some like to make out. Houllier lost his way after his heart problems and the team lost a lot of direction and confidence. The sad thing is that if Houllier had retired after his heart problems he would be remembered as being a very good and successful manager.

To suggest that anyone no matter how much a genius they are could win the CL without a decent team is ludicrous imo. So for people to suggest that Rafa basically had to start from scratch is wrong.

The squad had weaknesses BUT then again so does this one, and thats after buying over 50 players.

Fair play to you.

That's the reason I didn't give names, because I'm an optimistic guy and I preffer to give some time to see how people react to the same circunstances. You find a mistake both reactions, so I only can say fair enough.

I do this not for the sake of argument, but for the sake of defending the current manager. I remember harsh words he got not exactly when he spoke, but the weeks later when results didn't come well.

I wondered if the coach of the archenemy would get a similar treatment or a harsher one. Some of you, apply the same criteria, which is nice. But if someone (note the if) defends Ferguson while called Rafa arrogant (for instance) then I'd find it quite outraging.

Yeah you are right. By now we should have some more well established players. But fingers crossed in the summer Rafa can bring in some quality mate.

Hey I don't want to talk too much about whats going on in the Fulham game but I bet Rafa must be smiling right now.

Rafas rant did what he intended, whether people realise or not. The refs have finally found the balls they've been missing for years to do what they should against the Mancs and Taggart.

Even though we didn't play today a lot of people will be saying well done Rafa. You have rattled Fergie good and proper! Of course we need to take advantage of that tomorrow but I will still enjoy this result.

Interestin watchin MOTD tonite, Phil Dowd (not my favrit ref by any stretch) seemed to be taken as far as the utd players could go. I feel fairly sure lesser players would hav suffered quicker and maybe initially more harshly, tho there can be few complaints about Dowd's ultimate decisions. Dunno whether Rafa's words struck a chord, whether the reaction of PD was genuine or what - nor do i particularly care - but i foresee words in the press/on the telly this week about such. Mike Phelan already made a rather barbed comment about officials needin to be 'in control' of the game, yet only a fool could watch that game and not understand both sendings off. Be good to see how this goes, how refs decisions affect comin games and whether they have the nerve to do as PD did today. One complaint I would make was that Ronaldwho should maybe have walked prior to Whooney if only for that lunge/tackle against Danny Murphy. And continued unpunished use of his gob.

On a lighter note, the words seem to have struck a chord with the beeb too, as there was nowhere near the normal amount of suckin up to ushited durin the game nor afterwards. (Aside from sayin our victory sent 'shockwaves' thru the premiership!)

Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road
