Liverpool reborn

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Tue Aug 31, 2004 9:50 pm

  • Houllier left Liverpool with bits of pieces, Rafael Banitez has come and now he has to take those pieces and put them together as a puzzle, if he puts the wrong pieces together the squad will pay the price for it. <-----that is why Rafael needs time to rebuild our squad. We have new players, let me remind you who they are:
    -Luis Garcia
    -Xabiar Alonso
    -Josemi
    -Antonio Nunez
    -Djibril Cisse

    Players from the Houllier reign:
    -Steven Gerrard
    -Milan Baros
    -Jamie Carragher
    -Hary Kewell
    -Jerzy Dudek
    -Christopher Kirkland
    -Sami Hyppia
    -John Arne Riise
    -Ditier Hamman

Rafael's goal: Combine two groups of players into one.

This will take time, this will not happen in 3,4,5,6,7 season games. Now does that mean that we will lose all our games until Rafa get's the squad to where he wants it ? Of course not, Banitez has face this challenge at Valencia. His first season there he won the La Liga even though Barcelona,Real Madrid were the favourites.

Our performance against Bolton showed that we still have bits of pieces to put together in order to become "ONE" not individual players but ONE squad. We can not depend on Steven Gerrard, we can not take him for granted, same for any other player. Some of us did that with Michael Owen and when he left we were gutted, we got used to seeing Michael wearing the Red jersey for so long, well all things will eventualy come to an end but we are starting from scratch as if Liverpool was just made.

There is no Michael, now there is Baros and Cisse. Baros wanted to start and now he has. Against Manchester City he showed a lot of effort, he was all over the place, you can not blame him for trying to do his best to impress Banitez.

Cisse still hasn't gotten used to the Premiership style but eventually he will. The midfield can only get better if Banitez plays all of them in the correct positions. Garcia,Alonso,Gerrard and soon Nunez are all good midfielders, you can't expect players who just now met each other to know how each other think.

That will take time, in every game there will be progress. Some act as if Rafael has never been a manager before, have some faith in the man. If he says he can improve the squad he can. By the end of the season we will be 15 times better than we were when we started.

Champions are not made over night ladies and gentlemen. Don't be concerned with what Arsenal and Chelsea are doing. Support your club, don't worry yourself what and how they play.

Chelsea won't become number 1 this season eitther, Chelsea's complete squad is brand new, they have more work to do because so much is expected from them due to the fact that 200 million has been spent by the mafiaoso, Abramovich.

Losing a game is not the end of the world, the past must be used to improve the future. Rafael will not let his men lose yet another game straight in a row. I don't see us losing anymore games anytime soon. Maybe a bit more draws but 1 point is better than nothing.

From this point on, things can only get better. STOP SLATING EVERYTHING. It is very annoying that some are slating a certain player, the squad,manager,etc.... Be more optimistic, you never know what might happen.

Who would had thought that Porto were going to win the Champions League?
Who would had thought that Valencia were going to win the Uefa cup?
Who would had thought that Greece would win Euro2004?

In modern day sports, things can no longer be predicted.

    Keep the faith, YNWA

Ian Rush is god, read what he said

The former Reds number nine has also warned Liverpool fans to be patient in the forthcoming season and suggested finishing third would be a real achievement.

Rush said: "It may take a few more weeks before Benitez knows what his best team and formation is. Only then can we judge his work.

"My suspicion is third place is the best the club can hope for this year. If they achieve that, I think Benitez will have done exceedingly well on his debut in English football

A.B.   730 posts in less than a month.  Surely there's something else you could do to pass the time till the school term starts.

you are right A.B

one game never has, and never will, make a season
neither will one game remodel a team to perfection

well that one game can make a season if the stadium gets blown to pieces or all the players get injured, or etc etc

I agree with what your saying AB. However, I was very alarmed with our performance at Bolton. Yes, 1 game does not define a season nor does it decide how a manager will fair with the team, but this game, as well as the 2 other premier lge games we've played this season have spelled a couple of things out to me. We need a new centre back and a goalkeeper. For all 3 of the goals we've conceded so far this season Jamie Carragher AND Jerzy Dudek were at fault. The new signings will gel and the forwards will form a great partnership but as long as we're leaking at the back, we wont be up to the standard of a league winning team. 3 league games without a clean sheet, now that has to spell something out to everybody.
I'm not a pessimist nor am I criticising the manager, I just dont think we are equipped for the league this seaon and certainly not for Europe. This season is not one for progress not for glory. I hope to see us get 3rd ahead of united and have a decent run in the champions league and win 1 domestic cup and hopefully then we can build a winning side capable of competing with the best. :)
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

You know you make a good point but also you don't.

I hate to use Arsenal as an example. Look how many goals they have let in. Against Boro they let in three, their defence is more horrible than ours but because they have talented strikers and work as a team they can get back into the game. We are capapable of doing the same thing, it will take time however.

Arsenal had the least amount of clean sheets last season.
