Do you agree with it ?

Should people playing sports get honours just for being pretty decent at their sport ?

Does it devalue the honours etc when given out so cheaply ?

Yep I do agree with it. If you think about it, the knights of old got accolades for jousting... the sport of the time.

The same thing is happening now, giving out the awards for what they were meant to be given out for in the first place.

Not given out cheaply either, it is given to the tops, same as in all industries.

Think he kept refusing a knighthood saying he doesnt deserve one just for being in films and there is far more deserving of the honour in the world

Connery never refused a knighthood, he was refused a knighthood by the labour party because of his support for the SNP and desire for an independent Scotland. He has since been knighted in 2000

not a sportsman but John Lennon refused his honours, not sure why i can't remember

just got this

Late Beatles legend John Lennon was perhaps the highest profile figure to reject an honour.

He returned his MBE four years after accepting it in 1965.

In a note accompanying the gong, he wrote: "Your Majesty, I am returning this in protest against Britain's involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam, and against Cold Turkey slipping down the charts. With love. John Lennon of Bag."
