Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:44 pm

Bring on yer Internazionale,
Bring on yer Romans by the score,
Barcelona,  Real madrid
who the fuck yer trying to kid,
cause Libpool are the team that we adore.

:D Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has admitted the club would fear facing Liverpool in the Champions League after their exploits this week.

Liverpool’s season had been threatening to end in disappointment after some disappointing results, but last week’s 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid was followed by a 4-1 victory over Manchester United and there is now a renewed sense of optimism at Anfield.

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness admitted recently that he felt Liverpool were the team to avoid in the quarter-finals, and Cruyff has now said that no one will want to be drawn against Rafa Benítez’s side.

“For sure, many of those who feared playing against Manchester [United] don’t want to face Liverpool from now on because of the way their demolished Madrid and then hammered United,” he wrote in his blog for El Periodico.

“ìAgainst Madrid, Liverpool became a steamroller, and for sure, many of those who feared playing against Manchester United donít want to face Liverpool from now,î he said.

ìBecause of the manner in which they demolished Madrid and then thrashed United, they are clearly the side who everyone will want to avoid in the draw for the Championsí League.

ìBarcelona can defeat any team, but I am sure they have noticed Liverpool now. They were two convincing and prestigious victories, but each was different.

“Against Madrid, Liverpool went on the pitch to attack and press them. Against Manchester, they went shoulder to shoulder and the game finally turned their way thanks to one incident: Vidic’s dismissal and the direct free-kick.

“Against Manchester United, Benítez felt comfortable with a more defensive team that was always together so that they could intercept the ball and play fast on the break.”

However, while Cruyff is particularly keen to avoid Liverpool, he admits there could be serious problems whoever they face.

“Playing against Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea won’t be easy, especially since Hiddink arrived,” he said.

“Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Villarreal and Porto are put in the ‘if we play them, we go through for sure’ box, but we should be careful of this idea in the dressing room, because no second-rate clubs are remaining.”
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

im torn between the scum and porto

porto are the easy draw, BUT! we do tend to slip up when we expect to win
the scum would arguably be the hardest draw but ive got a feeling we are the only team who could stop them winning again this year and would rather face them over 2 legs then in the final

I quite fancy one the big boys in there to be honest. Given a choice I'd rather avoid Arsenal
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Did a completely random draw, this is what I came up with:

Barcelona vs Chelsea
Man U vs Villareal

Liverpool vs Porto
Arsenal vs Bayern

Sets up for a huge final.

I wouldn't mind getting ManU. In an effort to crush us I think they would make it easier for us as we seem to play our best when teams attack us and allow us to counter.

That would almost certainly mean 3 english teams in the semis, mind you it's not inconceivable that Chelsea can beat Barcelona.

At first look I liked this draw, a "nice/easy" win against porto and then a team that will be challenging but nothing too hard.  But I think I'd rather have to play Chelsea, Man Utd, and Barce over 2 legs.  I think it would suit the team better.  1 leg teams I wouldn't mind playing are Arsenal, Bayern, and possibly Chelsea.

Away leg first is the key factor. I think we can beat any team especially at the moment but the easier draw would certainly be Porto or Villareal.
