To get back to the topic, whay exactly is he a hypocrite ? He engages in tax avoidance, not evasion - big difference there, peeps. The former is fully legit, the latter is against the law.
Know what ? I'd do the same if I were him....
And another thing, if he's guilty of avoiding paying tax to the Irish authorities, then perhaps his own government is guilty as charged of doing the same, with the low rates of corporation tax made available to (mostly) US companies so they can save tax on the millions they make in profits every year. They're setting up shop here to avoid paying tax on the mega-profits in their own countries....
So Bono is doing exactly what they're doing...In saying that, I think he's full o' the brown stuff anyway, but hardly a hypocrite

the topic is not that U2 are hypocrites. i have no objection to the others putting their money is the most tax efficent away so i am consistent with irelands tax policy .

however, Bono is the one that goes to leaders and tells them what they should do with their revenue income.

Tax avoidance is okay, but doing that and then lecturing the government on what they should be doing with their tax income is hypocracy.

So Bono is trying to avoid paying his fair dues to his Govt. which makes him what exactly? Not the philanthropist he makes out surely or is there no poverty in Ireland.... I would suggest the man is driven by greed like many others and this altruistic facade is a front to sell more records and further bolster his burgeoning bank balance. Iam not sure how anyone can take the man seriously!

i think the mark against u2 in their music is that i don't think they have been as influential as led zepellan, nirvana, the ramones, hendrix, bowie and others.

Why? They've won more awards than any other group going. Had sell out tours withing a matter of minutes when they come about. Every album the release goes platinum. And are arguably one of the most influential bands to other groups there has been. Name me a bigger group than them in the past 20 years. 32 years and still going as strong as ever. That's gotta get some respect and credit where it's due. Some people are just baying for them to fail. Hasn't happened yet. Won't happen any time soon.

As for the question if Bono is a hypocrite: name me a single person who isn't or hasn't been. I know I have in many ways. By the way, I don't see anyone jumping down Mick Jagger's throat for doing the exact same thing U2 have done.

popularity equals talent??? okay then. david beckham is the best footballer in the world, anna kournikova is the best woman tennis player of the last ten years, the spice girls were one of the best bands in the last fifteen years, harry potter is the best book ever written(besides that one about that scruffy jew guy), titanic is the best film ever and U2 are the best band ever.

Oh no ,sarcasm overload, call an ambulance.

Yeah, you're correct - U2 don't have any talent. Bono is sh*t at writing songs. You're dead right. They've been found out there. They might as well f*ck off now and leave it to the real bands.

now you are acting like a stupid pr*ck. I said many times on thiis thread that U2 have great talent, are probably the only band to have such long lasting talent but feel their lack of influence on music is a minus when evaluating them.

If I argue that zidane wasn't as good as maradonna would you come back arguing that zidane was not sh!t.

my point was that popularity isn't what defines greatness- best song ever is candle in the wind? ?????
