Now is the time - Looking to the future

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Sir Roger » Sun Mar 01, 2009 12:46 pm

At last the thing which a lot of us had been predicting has happened
The Prem is lost to us
Yes- at least we were still in it until the first week in March and not out of it by Christmas
Yes- we have progressed and had a much better chance of winning the league this season more than the previous nineteen
But now thankfully that has been put to bed
I could be sarcastic and say that now Rafa has got his way regarding Parry that all our problems on the field would have been solved. But I wont. Because they arent.
It is painfully clear for anyone with half a brain to see that although some might argue that the club has progressed in the last five years it has gone backwards as well.
Are we nearer to winning the title than five years ago? Possibly. But that will not be enough for some of us who DEMAND that we win it and claim what we believe is our rightful place. Unfortunately it seems that too many are satisfied with second place and apologise constantly for the teams failure. This must stop and a winning (league) mentality must be developed.
I am sure some people will disagree and say the team is unlucky due to injuries, lack of form etc. But to go from winning at the Bernabau then getting stuffed at the Riverside in the space of four days is frankly beyond any excuses anyone could offer in my eyes.
The biggest indictment of Rafas mentality in all of this is the fact that he had a striker, a proven premiership and international payer at the club and, for whatever reason ( I cant even be @rsed debating the issue anymore), chose to get rid.
The gamble of the season? Or even the decade, if we dont win the league in the next five years?
Who knows?
One thing we do know is that Rafas regime is not good enough to win the league. Champions League, possibly. But not the title.
So it is now clear that we should be looking for second place and a CL final or win.
These are the minimum requirements for this current team and manager, if only to save face at the embarrassing season we have had so far.

Just wait til next season though...

I said it many times that mentality is not reflected on this board as it should be. I always ask for the best.. and then SOME.

Thanks SS
But I take no pleasure in pointing out the bleeding obvious.
I just wish some would take off their rose tinted specs and smell the bovril
This season has been a disaster waiting to happen.
I am not saying that at Christmas even I, the old cynic that I am, didnt start thinking that we might, just might, be in with a chance of regaining what was ours for so long.
Sadly, true to form, the dream died on the altar of baffling decisions made by the usual suspect.
I am not against Rafa, just his mentality, his philosophy, his choices and everything he does.

If he changed I would be the first to support him
Will he change?
What think you?

???

I hate to admit it but Man U and even City leave us standing on quality players in the squad, United have about 3 players for every position we have just one.
Their string players cost in the region of 20-30 million pound we have 3 world class players to their 5 or 6 until we bridge this gap things will stay the same.

If we get injuries to Gerrard and Torres we are fecked whereas they just bring in a replacement that does the same job.

I hate talking about them but I have to be honest our team is sh!t compared to theirs and that is the whole top and bottom of it.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Kenny Dalglish 1/2/2011

REST IN PEACE PHIL, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Unless something is done soon to rectify this it will not be long before we are pushed out of the top 4. And that means we need a lot more money to be made available to Rafa. He cannot simply buy 1 or 2 players and sell the same. He needs to be able to bring in serious quality not medicore quaity and the occasinal decent player.

Well, I don't see anything in the thread opener that suggests the need for a new discussion.  This is all well-worn ground and these points can and have been raised in existing threads.  So, I'm locking this.  But before I do, I had to highlight this passage:

At last the thing which a lot of us had been predicting has happened
The Prem is lost to us
Yes- at least we were still in it until the first week in March and not out of it by Christmas
Yes- we have progressed and had a much better chance of winning the league this season more than the previous nineteen

What a curious way to phrase something that most people see as a hugely disappointing turn of events.  It's almost, you know, like someone's taking pleasure in us falling off the pace in the title race.  What a strange place this is sometimes.  :Oo:
