Rafa Benitez answers Liverpool FC quit rumours

Feb 25 2009 by Tony Barrett in Madrid

LIVERPOOL FC manager Rafael Benitez has no intention of leaving Liverpool Football Club.

The Reds boss intends to stay put at Anfield - as he has always maintained - and remains hopeful of concluding agreement over the remaining details of his new contract which have yet to be resolved.

The Spaniard has been at the centre of a day of fevered rumour and wild speculation about his future - with some bookmakers announcing they have suspended bets on his imminent alleged 'departure' from Anfield.

But it can be revealed none of it has any foundation whatsoever as far as he is concerned. Benitez wants and intends to remain at the helm.

He insists he has no intention of quitting a club he has managed for almost five years now, leading them to European Cup and FA Cup success in his first two seasons.

Benitez is known to be particularly concerned that the rumours and media attention which have circulated widely today came just hours before he led his side into one of the biggest European ties in their hsitory.

Liverpool face Real Madrid in the last 16 knockout stages of the Champions League. The first leg tie tonight is the Reds first ever visit to the Bernabeu and comes 28 years after Liverpool defeated Madrid in Paris in 1981 to lift the third of their five European Cups.

Benitez has made no official comment on today's speculation and is instead concentrating fully on preparing his team for tonight's match, which kicks off at 7.45pm.

Benitez has made no official comment on today's speculation particularly those circulating on the Newkit forum (apparently a worldwide Liverpool FC supporters website) , but lip readers on the site have reported Rafa as muttering "un qué manojo de lickers del dick de la sal"

???

Even the dogs on the street are talking about Rafa "walking" tonight!
I think he will walk, probably off the bus, into the dressing room out into the stadium etc etc!
Thats the only walking he'll be doing though IMO!
The man has too much respect for the players and fans and LFC as a whole to leave us in the middle of the season.
IF he does leave of his own accord,it'll be at the end of the season....not now!

It just seems strange to me how this cr@p always crops up before a big game. We spend half our lives discussing off the field cr@p rather than enjoying the build up to what should be a great game.

No Reg, he's right. No quotes

The guys in the changing room focused on the game, its not some kind of bleedin´ Oscars ceremony where the lad pops out to thank his shlong.... whilst pledging his allegence to the club.

Its like asking gód to come down from heaven to tell us whether he´s a christian or not ffs.......

Just out of interest, why doesn't raf simply talk to the press, tell them it's a load of b0ll0cks and that we are going to concentrate our efforts on winning a football match. Once again, the talk is almost entirely about the manager before a big game and i can't help thinking that that's exactly the way he likes it.

Cause no matter what he would say in the press it would get twisted in some ways and then people on here would complain and moan about rafa talking to the press etc etc whereas he seems to just want to concentrate on the game and ignore the rumours .

Maybe he hasn't spoken to the press because the story only hit the headlines today and he's in Madrid AND yer might find this hard to belive but he's preparing for a MASSIVE game.

I know it's a p'isser that just when we want him to talk to the press he's outfoxed us again by concentrating on the footy

Depends whether you believe it or not mate!I was in getting a kebab last night after a few fantas and got talking to some randomer as ya do.He was an LFC fan and thats the first I heard it!
It does'nt bother me,we are a big club. There will always be rumours
I agree though that the timing is always poor but what can we do?It sure as feck aint Rafa or the players starting such shi'te!

So really what do we do?
Fuc'king beat Real Madrid in the Bernabau would be the best thing we could do!Then hop on the plane Rafa and the squad whistling Dixie....Rumour dead, forgot about, kaput!

Hopefully this will be the case! :buttrock

:) No need to be angry Woof. The story has been doing the rounds for a number of hours now, Rafa could do a press statement via an intermediary, or he could do it himself. He finds time usually to get little statements out via his pet journalist when it suits him, so that would do...

Ballaque "I have spoken to Rafa this morning and he is laughing at the rumours. I can assure Liverpool fans they are 100% fabrication and Rafa is concentrating on tonights match"..

Not that difficult really is it.
