Taff, they were running a very small book in the first place.

All the internet rumours doing the rounds had people placing bets.
Their maximum bet was only small anyway, so a small book which had to be closed as everyone
reading the rumours on the internet put it out of balance.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I hope so Effes

By how the team plays compared to previous years.

Utd are going to win the league this year.

But they're playing badly and barely scraping wins. They certainly are not repeating or "progressing" on the standard they had last year.

Does the fact that they will end the year at top spot that mean they progressed on their form, from last year. No, it doesn't.

Bettering how you achieved a certain result in the past is real progress. Simply looking at the end result doesn't show the whole story.

I may have spoke too soon - someone on LFC.TV is claiming that David Fairclough has confirmed that Rafa
will be leaving at the weekend.

Some people in the media are saying that tonights game is Bentez' application for the Madrid post. In other words, if Liverpool beat them well, Benitez may well have a contract offer from Spain soon enough and the fear is he may go if their terms are more favorable.

No way Rafa will walk before the end of the season, IF he
goes it will be the owners and the contract nonsense.

Mind you if you worked somewhere and sent a contract back 5 times what
would your boss say.

I still think he won't go before the seasons end of his own accord.

It's bollox and typical of the gutter press trying to stir the sh*t before a massive game for us. Sky Sports must have reliable sources on the Football365 forums, and in turn those sources have a source that goes by the name of Lawro, who is in fact a bullsh*tter.

Then why do you keep bringing them up as a yardstick to measure whether we've 'actually' progressed?  If you didn't care about other teams, you wouldn't spend so much time saying that we're only where we are in the table because Chelsea and Arsenal have screwed up worse than we have.  I'd have a lot more respect for your argument about 'lack of progress despite what the table says' if you would just stop bringing Chelsea and Arsenal into it.  Fact is, the happy clappers have been told for a while that our shortcomings can't be excused by saying we're not as good a side as the Mancs, Chelsea and maybe Arsenal.  So, I'm just applying the same thinking in reverse: our success this season can't be dismissed on the basis of what our rivals have failed to do.

From my perspective, the table doesn't lie: we wouldn't be anywhere near 2nd place if we were as poor as people like you make out.  With that said, we have shown many of the same failings that have scuppered our chances of challenging in the past and that is a worry.  So, why don't we just discuss those failings rather than concocting strange scenarios to explain away our position ahead of two teams that have, frankly, played worse football than us for a fair chunk of the season?

It's been all over the place. So far, it's just allegory. The rumour started on those forums. It's the usual bollox every year. We're just fodder for the press at the moment.

Just because I don't care if Chelsea has had a bad season this year, doesn't mean it isn't a factor on our position this season. If Chelsea had played well this year and Liverpool had improved on their form from last season, then I would say that the team had progressed from last year.

However, Liverpool have not played better than last year, but Chelsea have played worse than they did last season.

That is not a progression.
