So does Rob Earnshaw, lets snap him up!

 Fair one mate, no answer to that one  :D .

Kuyt and Babel have both been tried as back-up to Torres this season and neither can hit a cow's @rse with a banjo.  Back-up strikers are pointless unless they're actually capable of filling a void left by Torres if he gets any sort of long injury lay-off.

To neglect the striker situation this summer would be absolutely unforgiveable imo.  We need a quality striker this summer.  If that's someone who is capable of playing wide or just off Torres when he's fit then perfect.  But the main thing is that he has to be someone who can slot into Torres' position when he isn't available.

I 100% agree with that. I even think those for whom Kuyt is a red rag to a bull will have to wait, there isn't a position in the squad which is more pressing as of now than striker.

As John says as well it's not just a body to fit a slot job, it simply has to be somebody who is of a decent quality. To give you the best chance of getting value for money, given that whoever it is he sin't going to displace Torres permanently, someone who could fill in wide or replace Gerrard if needed is going to get more game time.

Out of English based players, Robin Van Persie would do for me as I've said, but he'd cost a lot of cash.

On Van Persie Mick - quality-wise then yes.  But I think his injury record and general attitude make him a player that I wouldn't want.  I know Arsenal fans who are absolutely appauled by the lad's lack of ability to get involved in general play and his workrate.  But he is someone who can pop up with a bit of magic.

Unless we could get him on the cheap with an expiring contract or something then I wouldn't bother.

Great shout actually.  At 32/33 I'd still take him.  One of the best finishers around and could do a job.

Happy days Nan!

I hear Drenthe is not a happy bunny these days either.  Have always rated him.  Have you heard anything on that?

We should have bought Pato when we had the chance, 20 goals in 41 games so far for Milan.

If we are paying that much for Villa to play on the right, I would rather spend that much money on a true right winger.  Villa won't be happy if he plays a different position.

Rafa wouldnt pay that much money and play him on the right - Sir Roger is trying to say that Rafa spends a lot of money on players then plays them out of position all the time - mainly based on whats happening with Kuyt .

Its very hard to get a top quality striker to anfield in the current climate. (not financial) i mean, rafa likes to play one up front and that is always gonna be Torres. So,how does he go about getting a quality back-up?

I have been one of rafa's many doubters, but on kuyt, i reckon he was right to move him right midfield. The lad isn't a striker. His stats in Holland might doubt that but for that argument i give you Alfonso Alves, meteja Kezman!

Babel? Well thats for another topic.

We need wingers, right sided one especially, and a garcia type number 10. Personally, i'd like us to purchase Joe Cole. He could do both jobs when needed. The other player i'd like to see at our club is Maxi Rodrigues
