Torres, Rooney and Drogba up front against Eto'o, Villa and Messi would be interesting

I remember an English league team vs Italian league team sometime around about 1990.

The Italian league team was immense - Klinsmann, Brehme, Matthaus, Gullit etc.  I have a feeling they won about 3-0.

I was only about 9 or 10 though so can't remember it that well.  Might have been a testimonial.

If there was a 2 player per team limit, it would cause some interesting strategic decisions because you might not neccessarily take the two best players from the top 9 teams. Game should be played under international friendly rules (6 subs)

La Liga XI (limit 2 per team)
                            Andres Palop
Sergio Ramos   Marchena     Garay      Capdevila
                              Senna
    Robben                 Xavi                  Messi
                  Villa                     Aguero

cheated a little because Garay is on loan to Racing.

Barca: Xavi, Messi
Real: Ramos, Robben
Valencia: Villa, Marchena
Villareal: Senna, Capdevila
Atleti: Aguero
Racing: Garay
Sevilla: Andres Palop

Subs: Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Forlan (Atleti), Guardado (Deportivo), Yeste (Bilbao), Juanito (Betis), Licht (Getafe), Diego Alves (Almeria)

The MLS All Stars take on some giant European team for their mid summer "classico"  So far they have played Fulham, Chelsea, Celtic, and West Ham

           Andres Palop

:) You have a good taste for keepers mate, you haven't selected the obvious one, and you happened to select a very very good keeper.

I disagree Ramos over Alves, though, and I'd always have Henri around, just in case.

If you disagree Ramos over Alves, then you need to drop Messi or Xavi. I don't know if you noticed the 2 per team restriction I put on myself.

I noticed on the second read. In the first read I was too happy you included Palop and too outraged to see the name of Yeste.
:D

I will make my own selection based on your restrictions, it's an interesting one, but let me give it some thought.

I didn't think you were going to like that  :p    Should I have selected Iván De la Peña instead?

SupitsJonF wrote:Why? For fun, basically. Who wouldn't want to see two teams of the Premier League's best players going head-to-head?

Who would define the best players? We see it all the time, player of the year, world player of the year, best midfielder of the year, young player of the year. And like these awards the selections would be daft. Questions being "how is (insert favourite here) not selected?"

Anyway, I chose it would be boring, when big teams face each other with the "best" that is on offer, it usually results in a boring match. Not only would it be boring, it would be pointless, and any daft injuries would make it worse.

Besides, the best players are usually the ones nobody have ever heard of and surprise us when we watch them in the champions league, UEFA cup or international matches.
