I don't wish to p!ss on anyones chips but the only thing that Rafa has done with the academy so far is to block any players from the ACADEMY moving up to Melwood.

Eddie the eagle was a laughing stock of the country one year and a totla Z list - im sure you can figure it out .

And yes puroresu a manager could do that - but which manager would that be ? which manager with the reputatuon, skills , abaility and expirience for that to happen will come to a club where the owners dont speak and havent got the big money to really go for it in the transfer market .

Are you serious?? Eddie the Eagle is a fecking legend, so I'll treat it as a compliment thanks.

Have you ever seen ski jumping where they basically hurl themselves down a fecking steep mountain and then launch off the end of it. For him to take that up as a grown man is astonishing and although he may have jumped slightly shorter than most other children learning how to jump :D  it still took a hell of a lot of bottle and guts so he has mine and most other people who actually underdstand sport's admiration, so feck you  :rasp

he was a legend for being a comedy clown that everyone laughed at and most people embaressed about .

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that as well then  :D

bet you wouldn't have the balls to ski jump though.

And you know this how?

read it on the Offal last year at some time .

And agree that is a very very good post Muzodziwa.

Yes Ace Darby has impressed for the ressies but is he better than arbeloa for instance ? Im sure i remember everyone or pretty much a lot of people wanting carra at right back .

Yes purosecu he did win back to back la liga titles and a cl - rafa has won two la liga titles and a cl - Rafas liverpool team also went to Rijkaards Barce and outplayed them and beat them over two legs  - Rijkaard did it with a galaxy of superstars and i expect even mac claren oculd of done it

The Academy is run independent of Rafa, he has no control over it. The coaches etc are appointed by Parry. Rafa wants control so he blocked any players moving up to Melwood, when he buys young players he puts them straight into Melwood so that he has control. Thats why he is arguing over his contract, and why a lot of the better Academy players are looking for other clubs.

It is a total shambles at the moment mate.

Other than bring in countless 'the next big thing' players from countries scattered accross the globe and not give them a look in, what has Rafa done for the acadamy exactly ?

I don't think so mate, N'gog was bought for the first team squad NOT AS BACKUP, and the last I read on Nemeth was that he was "improving but not ready for the important step up"

Does anyone think Carra, Fowler, Owen, Stevie or Macca would have come through the academy if Rafa was in charge because I don't.

in 5 years not one academy player has established themselves, now that either means that the academy which gave us the players listed above and many more besides has suddendly become completely cr@p as soon as rafa took over or that he doesn't believe in nurturing young talent in the way red nose or Wenger does, either way something stinks and we are wasting a load of money every year, so sorry but that is another reason why I don't trust rafa.

No Darby isnt better than Arbeloa - yet, but he should of been at least on the bench this season.
He could come in and not look out of place if we were really struggling imo, the fact that he never got a look in when we had no fit right backs at the time must of really damaged his confidence in his ability to make it at the club.

He is reserve team skipper as well, so not just another up an coming youngster, they must see more in him than that.

Thanx saint, its just that the information i have is not confirmed, hence i would not want to run with it as if it is fact,

A question to ponder then, are we happy with the work rafa is doing at Melwood, ie both recruitment and development.

It's at times like this that I actually wish Stu the Red wasn't banned.

I'd love to see his response to this post. :D

Hard to say as none have really broken through yet. Insua looked a very good prospect, but we bought Dossena in the summer. Darby looks good but we brought in Degan on a free. Nemith looked good last season but we brought in N'GOG and Keane.

Its much much harder these days to get a real chance. If there is an injury, in all likelyhood they will shuffle the pack rather than risk a youngster.

Yeah he prob should of had a few more games on the bench but instead of who ? sami ? aurelio ? agger ? . Yes when Arbeloa was injured he may of gone on the bench then but definately not in the first team but even then who do you take off the bench to let him sit there ?

What do people want more ? our best team out there or to blood youngesters in ? a prem game is not the games to do this and prob not even FA cup - CC would of been good but we got knocked out early and the lad did get a chance in the last CL and come pre season he will prob play a fair amount of games to try and prove himself .

What ever people think of buys like dossena and lucas etc - these guys are international players with experience as opposed to young kids with none - I know the argument will be "well how do they get the experience then " - certainly not during this critical stage in the season and prob not at any stage unless there is major inury crisis because the pressure for success is so high now from fans and owners etc .
