Flashback - Everton 4 liverpool 4 fa cup replay 1991

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think whatever happens in tonights game, in 20 years time if you asked any supporters of football to reflect back on their most memorable Goodison games between Everton and Liverpool, a lot would go for this one. Yes we had Rush scoring 4 in a 5-0 rout. Yes we had Mcallister's fantastic last minute goal. However I think you'll agree that this game lives long in the memory for certain obvious reasons.

Firstly it was in the days when you just kept replaying the game until someone won. During this season we had set off like a house on fire and looked like walking the League. However we then had some dodgy results and the game itself proved to be Dalglish's last as manager. It was devastating news at the time and one which the club never really recovered from for several years afterwards. Infact the majority of fans will probably remember exactly where they were when they heard the news.

As for the game itself, the 4-4 scoreline was more a reflection of some shocking defending from us, having taken the lead and relinquished it 4 times over the space of 120 minutes. It will also be remembered for a cracking Beardsley left footed strike and another memorable Barnes right footed curler that Neville Southall said was probably the best goal ever scored against him.

I don't think we'll exactly see a high scoring classic tonight but the memories are great all the same. What are your memories of that game and the resulting feeling when Dalglish departed.

I was in the Upper Bullens and smoked a whole pack of 10 ciggies through the game.

The 2nd reply was again at Goodison - does anyone know why?

What a game.  I remember watching this as a 9 year old and seeing my idol John Barnes score an amazing goal.

I was wrong, I blamed Liverpool's demise on Souness when it was clearly your fault
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
