Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

"The premier league has announced today that it will be allowed that the clubs end the transfers beyond todays 17.00 GMT deadline, PROVIDED THAT the involved clubs have a confirmation by e-mail that the deal was already agreed".

I'm happy clappy: can anyone confirm this is true and might this mean we'll have a replacement after all? Please, make my night happy?

PLEASE!!?!?!?! (I'm gutted right now  :no )

I really dont know why we signed him the first place crazy - my thinking and the only positive i saw at the time was that he had prem experience - i couldnt see how he could fit into our team and our strongest line up . he wasnt a young pacey forward that could back up torres and he wasnt a creative attacking midfielder or wide right attacking midfielder all of which i think we needed a lot more than keane and barry .

It's true Sabes but I honestly think we would have wind of it by now if we had agreed for someone to come in on loan. I'd take it all back if we have but I don't think so mate :(

Well of course there's nothing we can do about it...we're all just bystanders to the train wreck.  That doesn't mean we can't feel mighty hacked off about how it all played out.  Sorry but I'm not yet to the point of shrugging my shoulders and saying 'oh well, I guess we'll just have to get on with it.'  Not by a long way.  :no

No probs with that Bob and can understand (when someone syas it more sensibly as opposed to coming on just slagging off the manager ) your thinking . i guess im just one of those people that will wait and see and reserve judgement .

With the greatest respect, there's no need to wait and see. We are taking a huge gamble for the remainder of the season, and what is there to wait and see about? As long as Torres stays fit, we'll probably perhaps maybe just get away with it. It won't make it right though.

It's akin to selling all our reserve goalies (might take a while I know but run with me on this) and saying lets just hope Reina stays fit, He probably will in truth as goalies normally do, but it wouldn't make the decision right.

The absolutely only debate that I can see, the only thing which is infact debateABLE is how much pressure if any the manager was put under to sell, how much of a financial consideration was it?

On the other stuff there's no need to "wait and see", to sell Keane without a replacement is palpably ridiculous.

So Keane was one of only two strikers at Liverpool FC?

Give over, you big pudding.

I think he was one of only two credible strikers at the club yes Lando. Just so we're clear, do you personally think it was a good idea to sell Keane without bothering to replace him?

If he wasn't going to play again, what difference does it make?

And by all accounts, we may have agreed a deal with someone else anyway.

I must confess Sabes, despite being no Rafa devotee I have a hunch that something might happen. I simply can't believe we'd have agreed to weaken the squad so readily without a replacement, even on loan.

Watch this space, but often when rumours surface there is a grain of truth kicking about. It wouldn't surprise me if we do get somebody, and it's either Gunjohnson or Saviola.

All this cr@p about Keane scoring against us in the last game... so frigg'in what?

If we stopped drawing and won instead we'd win the league with 5 games to go.

Some people just spout complete sh'ite creating worthless points. Why arent people shitt'ing themselves in case Heskey scores, or Pennant or Charlie Itinjeer plays the game of his life?? ???

I agree totally with you on that.

In the case of Gareth Barry.. that has to be the best signing we never made!!!!!  At the time I thought that we were hell bent on selling Xabi and he was the only replacement being touted.. however Xabi has shown that he is a wonderful player (the way he sprayed the ball around Sunday is a key point, a superb passer of the ball).. I would take 1 Alonso over 1000 Barrys.

Not like you Lando to not give a straight answer, your normally much more direct. I agree with you if he wasn't ever going to play for us again it wouldn't make any difference. Also, I agree with you that if we have already lined somebody else up, it would make less difference (assuming of course they are any good).

The question was though, would you feel it was a good idea to sell Keane if we haven't bothered to replace him?

i could understand getting barry if alonso was going but i didnt want that to happen in a million years and in some ways im glad all that happened cause it seems to have spurned xabi on and now he is one the best players in the team at the moment and pretty close to being player of the year .

Yeah i know, that bit in the article was pretty boring and predictable. Truth is we will all love it if we have to worry about Keane scoring against us in the last game coz it will mean the final game means something, and hopefully a little more than qualification for next season's champions league!

And my point was it makes no odds to me, as he wouldn't have played anyway.

If you want a more direct answer - I'm glad we have sold the moaning c*nt, whether we have a replacement or not.

Spot on.

Take Stevie out of the equation and Xabi is the beating heart of our midfield.

Masch is a legend but he is an entirely different type of player, just as valuable however.

I see the three of them dominating the Pl for years to come, we just need to get the balance right.
