what about leaving Keane on the bench was causing too much of a distraction than it was worth?

No mate. In Spain the cameras enter even the dressrooms, they are taking images of the training sessions, when two team mates fight they record it and broadcast it in the national tv news 2 hours later.

Tons of rumours going on here for Raul or whoever star being subbed, and never a situation like that forced a strange departure like this in the middle of the season and no replacement. Substitution of stars always carry distractions, and I have seen bigger stars than Keane as a sub.

Unprecedented, and I thought that in Spain I've seen everything that could be seen. Have you seen a coach, sacked the first day in charge? I have. But never anything like this.

Keane scored 107 goals for Spurs in 5 years ... Thats 20 goals a year at top level.

Think we have personally messed up what could have been a really good signing with poor tactics and bad decisions!

challenging for the title. we were 7 points ahead a couple of weeks ago til his rants etc . we will revisit this in the next few weeks and see if we're still "challenging"

yes 7 points clear with the mancs having two games in hand .

your so right now we are 2 points behind and they still have 1 game in hand. thanks for showing me the errors of my ways

What could have possibly forced Rafa to let Keane go:

* Him not being good enough: No, he's kept players like Voronin longer than that and our front line is not our forte, if we lose Torres we'd have the fire power of a mid table team.

* Keane shagging some other players wife? It has happened more than once in many clubs, in that case you make peace now, and you sell in summer

* Keane not accepting to be a sub? That would be shocking from a childhood red, and we've seen great players like Mascherano being subbed with a big dignity. Alonso accepted with dignity not being considered key any more. It can't be that.

So the only reasonable explanation is Rafa being forced by the Yanks to sell Keane for economic reasons. Other than that, it's impossible to understand.

I must say sabre at the end of the day its the owners who have to sanction it, I think Rafa would have sold in the summer but the yanks (hopefully) wont be around in the summer and considering alot of the money was still owed I think they decided to cash in now and lesser their debt.
I just think they couldnt turn the money down.

your right again. it is all rafas fault we're in second place with the points tally we have. we should be in first place with at least 5 more points. i bow to your superior knowledge :bowdown

I think liverpool thought it was the best way to get there money back for Keane cos he just never fitted in, cos give it another 6 months he is a year older and his value decreases plus liverpool still owed 10m for him and that was to be payed in the summer so the slate will be wiped clean in that respect and we have ended up buying Robbie keane for about 5m or so for 6 months which works out about 1m a goal.

I feel sorry for him but he simply never fitted in to our side and he clearly had a manager who never rated him from the begining!!

We just gave 8M to Tottenham for nothing !! I'm feeling shame!

Decrease the value? how much? I think it's difficult Keane wouldn't do better the rest of the season than he has done so far.

I'd like to know what Rafa says. I'm shocked. I'd like to have some transparency about whose' responsability is this. I can't simply understand how Rafa told us last week he expected Keane to stay. Either this is a condition coming from above for economic reasons (as Rush stated a bit before), and that would explain why there are not incoming players or no transfers in winter, or this is a shocking decission of Rafa.

If Rafa says tomorrow that it was his decission and Keane wasn't simply needed I'd be shocked.
