Still in it? (definately) - So what do we do from here?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby akumaface » Thu Jan 29, 2009 2:00 pm

It would be a miracle if we can win this year. From owners, the manager and the players, nothing is right at the moment. I agreed with Ciggy that this club is driving us crazy because virtually there are only negatives. I'm really :censored: at Rafa but we don't know the whole story. Is he being hanging out dry by the players? Is it his contract? The owners? The pressure? There are just too many question marks. How a wonderful season can turn into a disastered one that I don't know? Really hope they can be man enough to resolve their personal differences when there is still a slim chance to do something before it is too late.

I think if all the owner talk and Rafas contract talk had been kept quiet till the summer we would still be top of the table.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Being right on rafa is like being employee of the week at mcdonalds, a loser and a winner at the same time.

Anyway I find it funny how some of you gave me stick and now are saying you hope we get beat in CL.

Feel free to keep abusing me if it makes you feel better about yourselves.

Peewee knows nothing about football because he is not a top manager.

Are you a Liverpool fan WeePee?

First and foremost he's a Peewee fan! :D

Peewee this "I told ya so" is pathetic lad..what age are you again..14 is it?
Everyone knows you've been reading the board and not posting in the first half of the season(while we were going really well) and popping up with the odd cameo proved it!

All of a sudden it looks like the wheels may be coming off and what a coincidence..up pops Peewee with the"I was right all along line"
Well done you lad..you must be chuffed to bits.Once again you have proven that you are a superior being and far more intelligent than 99% of the planet..lets all praise a great brain!(note the sarcasm please) cause your that far up your own shi'ebox I fear you may take that literally!
Im sure you felt great last night watching our title hopes fade to fu'ck.You just could'nt resist coming on here reveling in it,obviously being right and predicting we wont win the League means a lot to you...more than the team doing well!

Good lad..a round of applause for Pee,he's a star!
Now why dont ya fuc'k back off to your Coc'ks in frocks forum!
Bye!

He wasn't over the moon mate he was sick just like rest of us we was having a chat by PM to think any fan would want us to lose just to prove a point is bloody stupid and you should have a little more respect for your fellow red's tbh.  :glare:

Pass sqaure all the time, no teeth, cant score more than one goal.

I blame Rafa for that.

Then we've got these stupid substitutions, which are all down to Rafa.

Against Everton and tonight, Rafa takes off our striker(s) and gerrard tonight to defend a 1 nil lead.
Next thing you know, we find ourselves drawing needing a win with NO STRIKERS ON THE PITCH!

It's pathetic management.

Halfway through last season I'd had enough of Rafa - never thought he'd win us the league.
But with the start we had he had me thinking.

This January has just verified what I always feared - he doesnt attck enough, mad team selections
and even madder substitutions.

The funny thing is (if you can say that) I bet we'll do well in the Champs League.

Rafa's blown it in my eyes.

I could have sworn Keane replaced Gerrard...

Correct - When mido scored the pen, Keane replaced Gerrard.

I think he means though that when Wigan scored, we were drawing without a striker on the pitch. Course we hastily blew the cobwebs off Keane, squeezed his bum and whispered to him that we didn't really mean it, he was a good player really and would he mind awfully scoring us a goal to get us out of the sh!t, and lobbed him on.

Alas though, as so many times this season he was unable to deliver. Maybe we should have reminded him that he'd scored three in has last four league games or whatever it was. Then again that would probably have confused the poor fella as he tried to remember when those games were.

I see.

So once again, it's all Rafa's fault.

I take it Rafa was to blame for his 16 game barren spell, too?

Robbie's attitude stinks, and he did not deserve to be on the pitch in the games he was overlooked.

Or is Robbie Keane not allowed to be punished for petulant behaviour?

Listen, the whole gripe with me was Rafa's (seemingly) negative ploy of
trying to defend a one nil lead.

bigmick wrote:Look it's a terrible result having controlled the match for as long as we did, we know that. We have spunked a lead again, we have allowed the Mancs to overtake us, Chelsea and Villa to catch up with us, we know that. The manager has probably made a few mistakes, we know that.

All that said though, we are two points behind the Mancs having played a game more than them. Obviously we are not exactly the favourites, but we do still have a chance. We are level on points and games played with Chelsea, and when Scholari's men were blowing everyone away at the start of the season you'd have taken that. My point is this, we are still in with a squeek, (it was a shout but nevermind, you can still hear it).

So what do we do from here?

Well the first thing to acknowledge is that we are going to need to win an awful lot of our remaining fifteen matches. Given that, we are going to have to play with a slightly more attacking mindset. Now I'm no fan of his, but I was impressed with Yossi Benayoun tonight. He scored a goal which Dirk with the best will in the World wouldn't have scored in a million years, and he went on one mazy run which was a neon sign ditto. I know he doesn't run around as much or defend as well (note the free kick given away against Everton), but perhaps it's time to have a bit of a go.

Other than him, needless to say I think it's time for the next few matches to play our best available team. Then pick it again. And again in the next match. I think most everyone would agree that our best team is the 4-5-1, and the only debateable position is who mplays alongside Carragher. I don't really care who we pick, lets just stick with it.

If we bring Torres off, (which we will from time to time) lets bring Keane on. Moreover, in the FA Cup match lets play Keane. He is one of only two strikers we have at the club, so best we make sure we have at least one of them on the pitch at any given time.

Lets play Alonso whenever he's available in the league. Lucas can play against Everton in the Cup, and if Alonso needs a rest he can play against Real Madrid. Similarly if the centre halves who aren't playing want a game, or the left back they can play against Madrid.

Obviously all of the above only applies if we get a potitive result against Chelsea. If we don't, we must make sure we come in the top four. If we lose against Chelsea, my hunch is the best we will achieve is third. Fortunately Arsenal lost tonight, so in the three way dogfight which will develop between us, them and Aston Villa at least we start in pole position.

I'm not quite ready to give up hope yet though. The team and players were good enough to get us to the top of the league at the start of the season, so I have no reason to assume that they aren't still a good bunch of players. Time for some common sense from here on in though, we've tried some of the other stuff. God loves us because God knows we've tried, but it's back to basics time now.

I've just only noticed the Wigan result, I havent been round a TV or a PC as much as I'd like. I cant say I'm to surprised with the draw mind you. It seems we're slipping back into our old ways.

Still, we're in with a chance, and from where I'm sitting we're better off being written off or underdogs to the likes as Chelsea and Man U. We are never in a million years pace setters for the league, otherwise we would of capitalised on others misfortunes and led the league by as many as nine points or whatever.

Chelsea is a massive game on Sunday, if either us or them end up as losers I think it will be a huge blow to our/their title credentials. If we manage to pull off an unlikely win IMO then we're still in their with a chance, but TBH I cannot see us beating ManU at OT anyway. I think thats where the title will end up, but at least we've been in the mix of it for the first time since Rafa's taken over.

Looking back on Rafa's press conferance about Fergie, it does look as though its back fired our results havent improved while Man U have cruised to the top. It may be a case come the end of the season 'what may of been'.

Stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation, stick with the best team and just go hell for leather now, we havent got anything to lose, we are now the underdogs which is how we like it.
