We can go on from here and win either the FA Cup or the CL and I still think we will look back on this season if we don't win the League and realise it's been our best chance for years .....

On top at Christmas..............We were all excited
On top at New Year..............Dare we dream that maybe this could be the year?

Gutted, after tonights display even before a ball was kicked you just knew deep down and don't lie if you did'nt that picking Lucas, Babel, Yossie and leaving Keane, Alonso and Riera on the bench in a game we HAD to win it had to go wrong.
I honestly think this next game is the make or break game a win over Chelsea and the Bitters holding the mancs they have proved they are more than capable, (drawing with us twice and with Arsenal) and its wide open again. Loose to Chelsea and its without doubt another season that promised much ending with nothing.
Personally I would rather win the title than the champions league.
So, yes it is still on and Sundays game if not already a big game its now a MASSIVE game not just for our season but for Rafa's future. (I still think even if we win the league he will go at the end of the season).
Now I am going to prepare myself for the :censored: I am going to get in work tomorrow from the mancs the pie eaters and even the bitters don't you just hate workin in a big office.

Good post.

The point I have highlighted above though is perhaps the only saving grace at the moment.  We might look awful at the moment, but despite our bad run we aren't losing games.

Most likely it will be not turning these draws into wins that will cost us in the end, but maybe, just maybe, drawing a few of these games rather than losing them as we have done in seasons gone by will be crucial.  Personally I can't see it, but as you say we need to go on a winning streak from now, including beating Chelsea at the weekend.  If that game ends a draw then you might as well hand United the trophy imo, because Chelsea would be as screwed as we would be with that result.

The best post on here was Sabre's one where he talked of letters to the manager if we win the league. A good response that was to an interesting interjection from Peewee (which I have to say was IMHO a bit more light hearted than he was given credit for).

I've always maintained that moaners, whingers and anti's want the team to win just as much as people who don't like to hear a word against the manager, and there was certainly no celebrating here when the penalty went in. Neither was there any at the start of the season during the "seeing of the light" period. Rotation was never the important issue, the team winning football matches consistently was, and at the start of this season we managed to do that which was excellent.

The wheels coming off finally tonight as they have been threatening to do for a while now probably puts the manager under the most extreme of spotlights though. Almost every strand of the fabric which makes up his philosophy is now stretched to breaking point, and from here I fear he has only one opportunity to survive and that is to go very close indeed to winning the league. Even a Champions League victory wouldn't save him if we were a distance back I don't think (nor do I think it should) and the manager is either going to have to get luckier, or change his philosophy.

By his philosophies being stretched to breaking point, I mean this:

Firstly the policy of mass rotation is once again proving to be detrimental to our chances of winning games consistently. Yes we were the better team tonight, and yes nobody could know whether we would have faired better if Alonso (in particular) had played. We do know however from experience that we win more consistently if we don't mass rotate. Zonal marking is coming under pressure. Not because it's the wrong system, but because we are looking vulnerable. His signings are looking dodgy at best, while his policy on the handling of big name aquisitions could hardly be argued to be improving their form. His substitution policies are looking flawed. As somebody else pointed out, in the last two games we have arrived at a situation where we are 1-1 without a striker on the pitch. His squad building thought process looks at best hit and miss. In some positions we seemingly have a surfeit of players, in others we rely on seemingly one player only plus "options". His handling of the press, the "facts" on the piece of paper rant now looks at best a misjudgement, at worst an embarassment.

We have improved since Houlliers days, but like I always ask, how much and at what cost? We've improved, but the team contains quite possibly the best player in the World today, who has been here throughout the managers reign. Despite that, and all the money, there is the possibility we are still going to be double figures in points off the top come the end of the season. Enough? Not for me no. I've maintained for three seasons we are good enough to challenge, and we proved it this season. If it all goes horribly wrong from here, it's time for the handshake (golden of course) and try somebody else. They'll get us into the Champions League as well without any problem as long as Gerrard stays fit, and will hopefully take us further in the league.

If I was Rafa now, I'd go for it. Lets just go all out to try and win games, throw men forward and lets not die wondering. Starting from the Chelsea game, each one now is a must win. No more caution, no more trying to close games out. All out attack, get the video's of when he first arrived and the performances we put in at Anfield then. We couldn't win the league at that point so we played with a bit more freedom. That's what we need from the manager now.

It's time for our "all in" moment.

Hi Lyns,

I've been where I usually am ..........at Anfield or at some non-descript out of town stadium (aka Stoke and Wigan and soon to be Everton !) watching the team I love playing with all the guile and experience of a pub side !

I have a full time job and growing family so my time is limited and precious hence my lack of time in here listening to fellow members set on each other instead of simply agreeing to disagree !

Sorry to be so blunt but sometimes we have to understand as fellow supporters that essentially we all want the same thing.

I know Peewee and you don't exactly get along but unless ONE of you just ignore the other then it's just back to the same old same old !

Peewee has come on here tonight to gloat he hasnt been here for two months.

I am asking why do you post this tonight when a few of us have had our doubts about rafa yet cannot express them because we get slated for Rafa outers. and its looking like you are one tonight mate.

What is it now 7 draws out of our last 8 games its not good enough. Whats the word on the terraces the faces where enough they spoke a thousand words.

What I just can't believe is that Rafa blames the other teams
to play too defensivly vs us.
What is he thinking when he says that?
It is all about getting a result and it is so easy to sit back vs us. Look at yourself 1st Rafa and admit you are clueless how to break down teams instead!

Sorry guy's don't want to get involved in your debate but do you not think that the fans trying to remove the manager at this moment would make the situtions that we find  ourselves in alot harder to contend with. Give rafa until the season end if we lose the league and don't win something get out there and remove him but don't forget he gave us  something to believe in that the impossible is possible with the fans behind you turkey 2005.
