Boss memories there - I was only 15, and I dont think I appreciated that doing
the double was SUCH an achievement.
Winning the league, or being favourites for the title, was what I grew up on,
again you took it for granted.

I really fancy a few quid on us to win 1-0. You can get 6-1 at Ladbrokes.

Only if we have a proper RB. When Gerrard goes walkabout, Carra will get raped with no support.

I would really like to see Gerrard on the right, think he would cause a lot of damage not having to worry about holding the centre of the pitch. Hyypia and Kuyt can come back in against Wigan if need be.

                         Reina

Arbeloa    Carragher    Agger    Aurelio

Gerrard   Mascherano  Alonso    Riera

                   Keane   Torres

Subs

Ngog
Babel
Benayoun
Lucus
Dossena
Skrtel
Cavalieri

If we play that team Luke it may provide more questions than answers. I remain absolutely convinced, 100%, that Gerrard on the right is the best way for us to maximise the sum of our parts as far as the squad is concerned.

If Gerrard plays on the right, watch keane go. If Gerrard plays on the right, Masherano can play as the sitter and Alonso can not only continue to press on, but can do so with the freedom of not stepping on Gerrards toes. Keane can drop in without hindering Gerrard, Riera will get so much more space as team concentrate on the captain's flank. Arbeloa will look like the best right back in the league.

Gerrard will still score most weeks just because that's what he does. He'll also provide umpteen assists fro the two strikers, who will also score regularly.

Yep, suffice to say I agree with that team 100%.

Not sure Mick.  Gerrard on the right I agree may be better for Keane and it does accomodate playing all 3 of Keane/ Alonso/ Macherano, but I just don't fancy moving Gerrard out of the centre at the moment.

It's quite an irrational outlook on it I realise.  Gerrard has played superbly on the right in the past, scoring over 20 goals in fact.  I don't think he'd be happy about it but of course he'd do it for the team if asked.  I just think we need to think about how to utilise Gerrard best over the next few years.  He's coming up 29 and won't have many more seasons where he's capable of marauding up and down the right wing with any real pace.  We need to be playing him in central midfield I reckon, or in the position in front of a midfield two, because this is where his future is if we want him to be playing into his mid-30's which I believe he is capable of.  Playing him on the right for any prolonged spell won't do him any good at this stage and it's debatable as to whether it would benefit the team either imo.

I must stress I don't want this to sound like I want what's best for Steven Gerrard rather than what's best for LFC.  It is my opinion that playing Gerrard on the right would not improve our results either.

I don't wish to be pedantic about this but, Gerrard didn't score 20+ goals playing on the right. He scored less than half his goals that season playing on the right. Cisse played a lot of games on the right that season as well. Plus 5 of Gerrards goals were scored against TNS.

He has been much more successful playing through the middle (Attacking midfielder) than he ever was playing on the wing.

He may still be our best option out there though :D

LFC Team for tomorrow according to a lad on rawk who has been spot on over the last couple of games. Also confirmed by someone else

But barring any late scares or knocks the team will be
Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Skrtel Dossena
Kuyt Alonso Mascherano Babel
Gerrard
Torres

And also the BLUESH!TE team for tomorrow.

I know there's as well, not that it will make much difference.

Howard
Hibbert
Jagielka??
Lescott
Baines
Anichebe
Osman
Castillo
Neville
Piennar
Cahill

Not sure on the spellings but that's there team. Even though I am not a massive Rafa fan, I fancy us to give them a good hiding tommorow.

We'll see , be interesting if they get it right this early on . :;):  :D

Rafa Benitez today backed Javier Mascherano to rediscover the form which saw him become the toast of the Kop last term.
Mascherano, who has started only three of Liverpool's last six home games, has yet to hit top gear after returning from Argentina's Olympic triumph at the end of August.

However, Benitez has no doubts that his midfield controller will step up to the plate if selected in Sunday's FA Cup derby at Anfield.

"I think he is ready again after the Olympic Games," said the gaffer.

"He said there was a difference and everyone could see that. But little by little he is getting better, the same as Ryan Babel. In training sessions you can see they, along with Fernando Torres and Martin Skrtel, are getting better.

"When I use Mascherano depends on the games. Xabi Alonso was playing well this season so you try to keep the balance, and sometimes if you need a more offensive midfielder you can use Lucas or Steven Gerrard.

"But Mascherano is the perfect man for giving balance to any team in the world.

"Javier has not spoken to me about not playing as much at home, he is a very good professional and he knows he just has to train well."

LFC.TV

We have all missed the Masch of last season, lets hope he plays against Everton and begins to show the form we all know he is capable of.

Arbeloa  Carra Agger Dossena

           Lucas Masch

El Zhar     Gerrard     Benayoun
