Disclaimer: I'm not necessarily condoning either joke, I'm just bemused by the differing reactions to both...
If you cant see the difference Bob, I obviously would have to construct a long elaborate post explaining the differences.
I dont think Im that articulate.
It's garingly obvious to me.
In the History thread the joke is about the "scenario" of a black president eveing scores for injustices in the past.
The poster on here is poking fun at a man, who in an instant has had his world ripped apart in an instant - the joke is saying "hey look - he's doing karaoke".
I find one acceptable, the latter not.
You're right. Addressing exactly why, to whom and on what scale both jokes can be deemed to be offensive is far too elaborate a discussion for this thread. My point, though, is that you have been fairly quick to dismiss a fellow member's concerns about the joke in the Obama thread yet you demand an explanation in this thread from those that have found the joke here funny, which seems a little hypocritical. Why should Misty's concerns get short shrift while yours (and others) in this thread be subject to a fuller discussion? Perhaps there's good reason why Misty might not find jokes about slavery and reverse-racism funny and perhaps we might do him the courtesy of taking those concerns at least somewhat seriously? Otherwise, you can hardly complain when it's your turn to get the "it's just a joke FFS" response aimed at you.
